America's Next Top Model 13: New Highs, New Lows And Only Four Left
Rankings and Commentary by RTVC Staff Writer Jacob D.
November 5, 2009
This week's episode of America's Next Top Model saw some girls rising to the top and others sinking to new lows.

The girls received lessons from supermodel Marisa Miller on how to pose with grace and sex appeal.

Then they had a challenge that involved taking photos while jumping off of a cliff and Nicole won.

Among her prizes, Nicole got to bestow extra photo shoot frames on other girls and Erin was left out.

For the photo shoot, the girls posed underwater.

At judging panel, Jennifer's photo was deemed the best while Erin and Sundai were left as the bottom two.

Though the quality of Erin's performance had slipped noticeably in the past few weeks, Sundai was eliminated because she was full of excuses and just couldn't push through at the photo shoot.

Four girls remain and the next new episode will include a double elimination.

That means that unless a late clip show pops up, there are only two episodes left in the season! I'll be seeing ya there!

Scroll down for the laest rankings.
Nicole
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 1
Nicole is an 18 year old student from Louisville, CO. She is 5' 7".

Nicole. Number One. Eight weeks in a row. That's not news. Well, it's news because I know I've never ranked a girl in first place this much and I've been recapping the show since Cycle Six. But the fact that Nicole is at the top of the pack in this bunch really isn't news. Once again, she took an interesting photo that, even though parts of it left the judges split, managed to keep her in good stead and free from the bottom two. She also won her second challenge this week and has, along with Jennifer and Laura, managed to come this far without ever appearing in a bottom two at any judging panel. For me there were two easy calls as far as how the next episode's double elimination will go: Erin will leave and Nicole will stay. If Nicole doesn't make it to the finals, it'll be one of the biggest travesties in this show's history, up there with the way another Nicole went out in Cycle Three, the events that lead to a double elimination in Cycle Four, Lisa's elimination in Cycle Five, and most of Cycle 12 in general. Whether or not she ends up winning, you can't deny that Nicole, with her incredible track record, has earned a spot in that final two.

Jennifer
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 3
Jennifer is a 23 year old model from Philadelphida, PA. She is 5' 5".

Jennifer creeps up into her highest ranking yet this season. I'm beginning to feel like Tyra wants to see an Asian model in the finals. She's all about diversity and girl power and about the only sub-type that hasn't been represented in a finals situation is Asians. We've had white girls, black girls, latinas, Russians, a plus-sized model, blondes, brunettes, and now we'll have two short girls. I mean, consider this: Jennifer has had some truly off weeks, with the judges even saying she was a disaster at a couple points, and yet, she has never even come close to the bottom two at any point. To be fair, I'm not contributing this possibility solely to politics. Jennifer really is a stunning girl who just naturally stands out and has lots of charisma. She's never boring, and you know how personality counts for a lot on this show, and has real model potential. She's taken some good photos, been called first three times now, and has a definite shot at making the finals, provided she turns in a good performance next week. Can she break Cycle Two April's record of reaching 4th place and become the new highest ranking Asian model the show has ever seen? It could happen.

Laura
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 2
Laura is a 19 year old waitress from Stanford, KY. She is 5' 6".

It pains me to do this, but I'm bumping Laura down a notch. I've had faith in her for most of the season, seeing as how she's never left the Top Five on my scoreboard and spent the previous four weeks in the runner-up spot. She's never hit first place though and never been called first at the end of any judging panel and that may be the key. Just when you think she might be ready to take the competition by storm, something stops her just short. Lately, she's been getting the edit of the, "goofy girl who is nice and just happy to be there, but doesn't exactly come across as a model." The judges have raved about her personality and a few of her photos, but never about how model-esque or high fashion she is. I've been looking for Laura to be in the finals, but I fear what will happen is that she'll be stopped just short for some reason as the girl who performs solidly, but not spectacularly, seeing as how she's mostly been coasting the last couple weeks. There's still a chance her strong track record will keep her around, especially since she's been more consistent than Erin and Jennifer, but I'm worried that she won't quite make it, especially with a double elimination looming and thus cutting another week of competition and another chance to impress and solidify her position.

Erin
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 5
Erin is an 18 year old student from Kenosha, WI. She is 5' 6".

Erin earned a dubious distinction this week. She became the sixth girl in Top Model history to face three consecutive weeks in the bottom two at judging panel and the first to survive such a run. Usually a third trip to the bottom two is not a charm, as Lluvy, Bre, Cycle Eight Whitney, Jenah, and Elina can attest to. While I'm slightly impressed, it's not a good thing and only earns Erin another trip to last place on my scoreboard. I feel like she tries so hard to prove how good she is that she loses herself and trips over her own feet. She was fine in the beginning stages of the competition, but I think she's letting the pressure get to her as the numbers dwindle.

With a double elimination looming, I don't think there's any way Erin will survive short of miraculously pulling off one of the best photos in Top Model history and even then I'd doubt her chances. Her edit as of late has been that of a bratty girl who is unraveling and receiving a bunch of hard knocks. That, combined with her three trips to the bottom two, make me think that her run definitely will not end in the winner's circle. I predict Erin will be one of the girls sent home next week.
