Edgy, interesting and
messed up.
Previously on Cycle 14 of America's Next Top Model, the 32 semi-finalists competed to join Tyra's, "MyFierce," network, a.k.a. the final cast, and while 13 or 14 girls could be chosen, Tyra and the Jays could only decide on 12.
When the 12 girls made it to New York, they were introduced to a 13th competitor, scouted seperately from the rest. With the full cast in place, the episode quickly moved into lots of drama.
First came the always eventful makeovers. Then, a fresh set of house drama centering around Angelea/Krista and Alasia. Finally, the episode left off with a cliffhanger when the girls were told they'd be posing nude for their first photo shoot.
This episode picks up where the last left off and we head back to the girls' first photo shoot. Mr. Jay tells the girls that they can only select one item of clothing for their shoots, meaning they'll be mostly nude. Jessica immediately worries about what her family will think. Why the heck is Mr. Jay wearing a kilt? Anyway, the girls will decide what item of clothing they get by grabbing for tags off of a nearby mannequin. Raina gets the idea of going for maybe a shirt or a jacket so she'll have some coverage and I think that's smart thinking, though I'm sure she's not the only one who thought of that.
For this photo shoot, Jonathan Mannion, previously seen in last cycle's elongation shoot and final CoverGirl tests, will be the guest photographer and Alexandra is the first girl on set with only a necklace to cover her. Alexandra looks stunning, though a little commercial-maybe Bette Midler-esque for my tastes. Don't get me wrong, I love Bette. I just don't think she's a high fashion model type. Mr. Jay says Alexandra's facial expressions were stunning, but hints that her posing wasn't up to par by wondering aloud if a pretty face will be enough.
Angelea is next with a pair of shoes and she goes for some long, leggy poses. Her look is softer than her usual hard edge style and she looks lovely, though she's giving me too much of a Jaslene vibe in this shoot. Again, don't get me wrong because I love Jaslene, but Angelea needs her own identity if she wants to be successful. Raina wears a ring and looks flirty and coy while Simone models a jacket and sits there like she's taking a dump. Tatiana's modeling a scarf with limbs akimbo and Anslee looks edgy with her dyed hair and clutch bag.
Gabrielle models a pair of gold leggings and she's a pretty girl, but in this shoot she comes off as safe, flat, and looking shorter than she is. She isn't filling the room and commanding the set. Mr. Jay tells her to bring more variety to her facial expressions and says she doesn't know how to model from head to toe. Jessica looks nervous, but lovely in her shorts and Brenda does a fierce job modeling her watch. Naduah looks absolutely amazing in her sunglasses shoot, but Mr. Jay doesn't think she really sells the glasses. Alasia struggles in her vest shoot and looks lost. Ren totally looks model-ready in her hat shoot and Krista is very awkward in her dress shoot, forgetting her facial expressions.
The shoot wraps up and.....
