America's Next Top Model: Always Blame The Rose Petals Commentary by RTVC Staff Writer Michael Pascua
May 19, 2011
We were finally down to the last episode of Top Model this season and we're down to Brittani who wasn't respectful or Molly who had attitude issues.
The girls have provided a lot of crocodile tears complaining about how much woe their lives had. It made me wish that Hannah came back and won, just because she had a positive attitude throughout the whole season.
The girls underwhelmed me with their CoverGirl photos. The commercial's will never air outside of this show so I don't have to complain about the 90s style editing. Chelsea and Ann had wonderful looking CoverGirl photos last year and they brought a very high level so I was expecting better lighting and beautiful colors. I'm really disappointed by the photos we were given this year because it just wasn't CoverGirl. What happened to the girls channeling their inner "Easy" and "Breezy"? I saw neither. I barely saw beautiful.
Brittani
Brittani has been constantly pointing out her trailer park background though the photos we've seen of her doesn't seem that horrible of locations. She's been having constant panic attacks and she deserved to be criticized for her attitude to Alexandria. Watching Brittani walk was good, up until her unfortunate fall. It seems as though her fall would have been at the endpoint of the runway, behind most of the view of the audience. She also couldn't keep in character long enough.
I don't understand why the judges were gushing over Brittani's photo. There is a really negative deer-in-headlights look to her CoverGirl shot. The hair makes her look a bit young and I'm disappointed that they didn't chop the girls' hair before the CoverGirl photo. The photo itself is a beauty shot, but not as glamorous as CoverGirl commercials have been trending especially after seeing the Drew Barrymore and Queen Latifah commercials constantly between episodes. Her hands look like huge oven mitts in front of her face.
Molly
Molly was her cranky self throughout half the episode until her foster parents showed up and calmed her down. I thought it would have been enough for her to find her inner balance and win. If they showed up in the beginning of the episode, Molly would have won. Molly's runway had a swish to it that I wasn't expecting, she settled in in the second pass. It could become a bit of her trademark. I have to give Molly some credit for actually helping Brittani up. It would have been hysterical if she just turned and let Brittani lay there in her pool of embarrassment.
In photos Molly normally has a scowl and an anger that works, but for CoverGirl she should have been able to soften up more. She is less mean, but she looks more like an actress than a model. I understand that I'm supposed to be looking at her lips, but I can't stop myself from gawking at her weird neck in the shot.
In the end, I wouldn't have minded a win from either of the girls, though Molly had the strongest portfolio. I'm just trying to mentally prepare myself for another season of Alexandria talking about how she deserves to win.
