America's Next Top Model: There's A Way To Keep It Real - Here's The Rankings Recap, Commentary and Rankings by RTVC Staff Writer Jacob D.
September 9, 2012
This week's episode of America's Next Top Model was quite revealing, in more ways than one.
The girls got their makeovers, if they wanted them.
Yes, the twist this season is that the girls were given the opportunity to decline getting a makeover.
Now, if you're like me, you had to have immediately thought that that was some kind of test.
There's a long history of girls raising a ruckus at makeovers and getting punished for their inability to remain flexible.
Furthering the idea that it was all a test is that the girls wouldn't be told what their makeover would be until they agreed to get one.
Got thoughts? Post them at the end.
Most of the girls took the makeovers without hesitation but Maria and Victoria declined.
While Victoria admitted it was a snap decision she later regretted, knowing it could reflect poorly on her, Maria remained quite defiant and would not budge.
Don't worry; we'll get to Maria in a bit.
Perhaps the most emotional story from makeovers was Destiny's.
She got a more boyish cut and cried about it, admitting she's bisexual.
She cried about not wanting to be defined as a lesbian or bi since there's more to her than just her sexuality and felt her new style would be doing just that.
If I were to say anything to Destiny it's that, ironically, by making such a big deal about how you don't want to be defined by those labels, you are in turn still defining yourself by said labels.
If you want people to get past the labels, don't play into them or make them the central focus of what you're doing.
Be free, be confident, and accept these things about yourself.
Don't acknowledge the labels and if you have to or someone brings it up just be like, "Yeah I like this and that, but it's whatever" and keep a smile on your face.
Anyone who continues to define you in such narrow terms is generally not someone you'd want to waste your time on.
Later, as promised, Kiara and Darian got to scrapping.
