Age Of Love: Will He Choose the Drama or a Hot Mama?
Episode 2 Recap by Donna Emery
June 27, 2007
Just before the girls left Mark's home, Adelaide asked for a moment alone with him. Amanda was shocked; she said it was disrespectful. She grabbed a seashell and tried to listen through the wall. Adelaide gushed to Mark that she really likes him, and that although she's usually shy she felt comfortable with him. Mark was pleased with her moxie. He said that she was trying more than the others, and that she is open.
As the older women prepared for elimination, Kelli said she was prepared in case she was sent home. She said her bag was packed, "just in case."
Angela thought that Mark would do well to pick her, because she offers "the wisdom of an older woman, and the beauty of a younger woman."
The younger women were less worried about competition between each other. They were too busy how awful it must be to be old. They joked about hot flashes and stretch marks. They seemed very glad that they didn't have those things.
Mark was pondering his choices. Host Mark had revealed that Mark must send home one girl from the younger group and one from the older group. He was also concerned that the older women would be upset with him, when they found out about the younger group.
When the older women, who gathered first at the pool, were met by the host, he told them that he knew they'd probably wondered why Mark hadn't spent any time with them on the previous day. He said they were about to find out.
The older women were predictably ticked off when the younger ladies flounced out to meet them. Kelli noticed right away: "here come six beautiful young girls." Lynn was a bit apprehensive. "I didn't sign up for this," she said. "Maybe it would be better if he did send me home." The older group was even more upset when their rivals stood right next to them. But after a few minutes, the older women decided to just go with the flow. Most laughed at the absurdity of the situation.
Host Mark explained that the show is meant to reveal whether age is a factor, in finding love. He asked the oldest contestant, Jen how it felt to be a 48-year old; dating a man who is also dating a 21-year old. Jen's answer could have been scripted by the producers: she said that age isn't a factor in love, and that it doesn't really matter.
Mark began the elimination by telling them all that they look gorgeous. He said that he hadn't made the decision based on age, but that "it's all about connections."
Tessa was called first. He asked her if she is shy. He said he knew she'd been "thrown into the situation." He asked her to give him a chance to get to know him, and asked her to stay.
Next came Maria. He told her that he knew things had changed, in the contest, but that he still wants to get to know her better. So, she was also asked to stay.
Nervous Mary came next. He said they'd only met a few days ago. He said that he hoped that she'd open herself up, and stay. She breathed a sigh of relief, and said now she can relax.
Last week's favorite Jayanna is evidently still riding high for Mark's affections because he told her "keep doing whatever you're doing." She's staying, too.
Megan was told that she's "very beautiful." He said he definitely wants to get to know her. She will stay another week.
Lynn came next. He said that she might think she's showing him who she is, but he doesn't really see enough of it. He said he wants her to show him who she is. She'll stay, and try.
Amanda found out that Mark feels like he "can't see behind the smile and the eyes" to what's inside. He said he wants her to stay, so he can get to know what it is.
Kelli was next. He said that they hadn't had much 1-to-1 time, and that she hadn't shown him much. He said "but there's something there, so I will keep you around."
It was down to the last two, from each group. The tension was high.
Next, he called Lauren. He said she seemed very outgoing, and that she'd tried to get to know him. However, he didn't think that he could see things "working out" between them. He said that he didn't see himself being "attracted down the line." So, he sent her home.
Predictably, he told Adelaide that she is one he'd like to spend a little time with and get to know better.
Angela and Jen were left. Angela thought she'd peaked his interest, and thought she'd be disappointed if she were eliminated. Jen said that if she were eliminated, she'd feel like she had a broken heart. She said she'd put her heart on her sleeve.
Jen was called first. Mark told her that he'd never before considered dating an older woman, but that she'd opened his eyes to that experience. He said that he really thought that "there could be something here," so he asked her to stay.
That meant that Angela was the unlucky person who would go home. He said that he'd been glad that she'd won the 1-to-1 time yesterday, but in talking to her then he'd found that he didn't feel as though he could see them having a future together.
Angela took it stoically, as Jodie did last week. She said she'd had her heart broken before, and that she had lots to go home to. She said she did wonder if her time to find true love might be running out, but she does want to find "the one."
Next week, the women will find out that both groups have to live together, and the "real competition begins." It should be interesting, to say the least.
