Age Of Love: It's Those Freakin' Dimples!
Episode 5 Recap by Donna Emery
July 18, 2007

He wasn't treating her like a mom. As she sat on his lap, they shared some deep kisses. He told her that her lips are soft. She noted that she is attracted to him, and wanted to show him "what a 48-year old has to offer!"

Mary had yet another crying episode. She said, "I'm 24, but I've been through enough. I want to be here and be happy. I don't want to stick it out if I can't be happy!"

Jen and Mark continued their date at a biker bar. They flirted while playing pool. Mark said it was "naughty flirting." Jen beat Mark at pool, but he didn't seem upset. He said he is comfortable with her. He told her that he joked around with her because of his comfort with her. When they snuggled, she asked him if who else he'd "kissed like that." Mark declined to tell her. He said he doesn't kiss and tell.

As the date concluded, Jen said that she knows that what she needs and wants is Mark. When she arrived at the suite, only the younger girls were out in the living room. Amanda was upset that Jen began talking to them "as if she was our girlfriend." She told them about the date, and bragged that the reason she'd gone on the one-on-one date is that Mark had said he'd saved it for her. Nobody was happy at that. Mary said that Jen is fake.

As he prepared for the elimination, Mark said that there are six women left, and he has to send one home. The women were nervous. Mary said that if he asked her to stay, she might cry. Maria was again sure that "he's not the guy for me. I told him what I needed and he didn't give it to me." As she had two weeks ago, Maria promised that she'd tell Mark that she was going home.

Amanda reminded us that Mary had promised this once before.

Mary was sure that Jayanna and Jen are "fake. If we told them personal information, they'd use it against us." Jayanna said that Amanda is "insecure." Amanda remembered Kelli's confidence going into the last elimination, and how her elimination had been a shock. "I don't want to be the shock this time."

When the ladies arrived at the pool, Mark began as always saying that they all look beautiful.

He spoke to Jen first. He told her that their date had been incredible. "You showed me a side of you that I knew was there." He must have liked that side, because he asked her to stay.

Megan was the second girl to hear her fate. He told her that they'd had a great time at the beach. "You make me smile, and I want to know you more." He asked her to stay.

Also staying is Jayanna. "You are so easy to talk to," he told her. She broke in: "I hope you are asking me to stay!" He said that he was. She said she'd stay if he promised that they would have fun. He said they would "always have fun." So, she is staying.

After Jayanna came Amanda. When she reached him, he couldn't put his feelings into words. He stuttered that he looks forward to getting to know her better. She admitted that her feelings are even stronger than his. "It scares me," she confided. "I promised myself I'd trust my heart." Mark said he had promised to be himself, and asked her to stay.

Next came Maria, who'd said again that she was intent on leaving. Mary stood with her, awaiting the verdict and holding her hand. Maria told Mary that " a man's love for you depends on your love for yourself." She reassured her and comforted her. She told her that she didn't want her to go home. She told Mary that she is beautiful. I'll bet Mary felt pretty reassured of staying.

When Maria reached Mark, he told her that her eyes are amazing. Then he said, "two weeks ago, you woke me up and made me realize that I wasn't opening myself up. I thank you for that. Have I showed you who I am?"

This was Maria's chance. She said that he had an opportunity, on the beach, to get to know her, but he chose to focus on Megan. He responded that he may not have paid enough attention to her, but it was Megan and Mary's first date with him. That's not accurate, to my recollection, but it made Maria hesitate.

Mark went on to tell Maria that he knows who she is. "Who am I?" she asked him. He told her that she's confident. She was obviously smitten, to some extent, because she shouted: "you're killing me!" She went on to say that if she was in her 20s, she'd be "worshipping at the shrine of the god you are!". She also laughed that it seemed like they were in couple's therapy before they were even a couple. She hesitated again. "If I stay, you have to promise to invest time in me…" She laughed. "It's those freakin' dimples!" she mused. He agreed to invest time in her. She agreed to stay. She smiled all the way back to the winners' circle.

Until she remembered her friend, Mary.

Mary knew she was about to be eliminated. Of all the times she's had an encounter with Mark on this show; I have to give her credit. She didn't cry. She carried herself with class, grace and maturity.

Mark told her that he hadn't gotten to know her that well. She said she didn't think that was her fault. She insisted that she'd opened up about herself to him. He agreed that she had, but that he didn't think it would work out. She told him that he is missing out. She encouraged him to get to know the two younger gals better, and said "good luck! You'll need it!"

Mary was a bit tearful when she said that she'd given it all she had. She said she'd made herself vulnerable. Jen and Jayanna were not unhappy to see her go.

Next week, Mark supervises the ladies at a coed sleepover, where there is predictably very little sleep. Sounds like a pajama party with lots of catfights!
