The Apprentice: Do Resumes And Experience Really Mean Anything?

Nothing else matters.
Reading the Applications for the Apprentice is the first order of business before the actual Interviews.
There are sixteen people who have passed the first hurdle and are ready for the final interview process. They have provided evidence of the sort of entrepreneurial skills and business acumen that Donald Trump is seeking.
First I must reveal my dislike for Donald Trump. I can admire the man for his successes and I can definitely admire his ability to bounce back from a fall.
What bugs me, and it’s just personal, is his overbearing ego. Yes, I know. It’s easier to succeed in business if you are pretty darned sure of yourself. There is just a holier than thou odor about the man that makes my skin crawl.
It’s not important. Neither is his hair, but I think that the hair says volumes about the man and his image of himself as King of the Known Universe.
Second I want to make it quite clear that I know how the hiring/firing business works at the management level in the real world and on The Apprentice.
It is a requirement of business that everything that can be quantified be measured and counted and such. This is to keep a company out of court. But, by the time applicants get to this stage of the hiring process, the resumes have been checked, the background checks are done and the references have been determined to be valid.
Those who fudged, embellished and padded are not going to be here.
Every one of these sixteen people meets the objective qualifications for the job. This process is about the subjective qualification and there is only one. Does Donald Trump like the applicant? Period. That’s it. And it’s that way in the non-TV world too.
The person hired is the one who, at a gut level, is the one that will be the best fit and do the best work in the particular job according to the guy who signs the paychecks.
There will never be a wrong decision made by Donald Trump. He’s going to pay the salary of the person he hires. The only criterion is his own. Does he like the person or not? If you disagree with Donald Trump’s decision, feel free to hire the applicant yourself.
So why do we even bother to watch? Because we are voyeurs. We want to watch the gladiators. We want to see who is a straight shooter and who is a snake in the grass. We want to watch the ass-kissing and see if Donald Trump recognizes it for what it is and if he cares.
Remember, this is a job interview not a social experiment, no matter what nonsense gets tossed into the mix for the sake of Good TV. This is not Survivor where you are trying to manipulate your competition. Jeff isn’t going to vote. This is not Big Brother where you can be one thing on prime time and something else after dark.
Donald Trump cares only about......
