The Bachelor: Tears, Frustration, Catfights And Craziness Commentary by RTVC Senior Staff Writer Gayl Killough

Blowing his clothes off?
The second episode of the 16th season of The Bachelor with Ben Flajnik was filled with plenty of tears, frustration, and cat fights.
There was a few mentions by some of the women about women bonding with each other in positive ways, like the bachelor contestants have with their bromances, but hurt feeling seemed to rule the mood of the bachelorettes this week.
Ben knows what it is like to be a contestant, but I also remember he had a bromance with fellow contestant Constantine.
I wondered if that positive relationship made for a very different atmosphere for Ben versus some of the bachelorettes, this season, or maybe the more positive bonding aspects are not just being shown.
It could also be the bachelorettes are really bonding over not liking some of the particular contestants. At least a couple of bachelorettes were written as villains in this episode.
The number one rule seems to be for any contestant that once you are safe with a rose, let the other contestants have a chance with either the lead bachelor or bachelorette.
If you don't, you are breaking the bro code or as in this episode, the female equivalent to the bro code. Future advice to any potential contestants.
It is interesting, at least for me, how my perspective of these episodes reflects what is happening in my life at the time I watch this episode.
In this particular case, I am ashamed to admit I was accused of being catty myself right before watching this particular episode, and I like to think that even though I am female, that being catty is the stereotype of some other females, and that catty is totally not me.
So I started to think about what I have in common with these bachelorettes that could lead being perceived as being catty.
These contestants frequently mention being shocked by just how emotional and toxic of an environment that it is to be among fellow competitive contestants, particularly earlier on in the season.
I think this is a key point that may be hard to really understand watching at home, just how emotional of an atmosphere the situation is for these contestants.
Easy access to alcohol can also make the words and emotions flow more easily than in a normal situation.
So also thinking about why I had been out of character of my passionate, but laid back self on this particular day while watching this episode.
