Big Brother: Is Big Brother About To Jump The Shark?

We still don't know the secrets, the twists and turns waiting to be unveiled for Big Brother 8. The Chenbot says "For season eight, you have to wait". Cute. But that is not stopping Big Brother, in the form of executive producer Alison Grodner, from teasing us.
Alison says we are going to love the changes this year. Well, you and I will be the judge of that. She told Daily Variety there will be a new play-from-home aspect to the game.
She told DV "It will give them (the viewers) the opportunity to participate even more than they have in the past."
She's not the only one building the buzz. CBS reality programming boss Ghen Maynard told Variety "This year, there are going to be some new things that make the show even more ubiquitous and interactive." Maynard could have said "it's going to be everywhere at once and you get to play too." But I guess that would have been a little too down-to-earth for a network suit.
The world knew Happy Days producers had run out of
ideas when they had The Fonz "Jump the Shark".
Anyway, what does it all mean? Yup, that's the question.
To "participate even more than they have in the past" has really got me thinking. In season one we voted people out of the house. How can fans play a bigger part than that? I'm not sure they can, but many things are crossing my mind.
Could a fan actually be introduced into the house?
Could it be more fan wake up calls?
Could fans somehow interact with the hamsters? Perhaps via internet chat? And what kind, if any, censoring would take place?
Wouldn't you love to tell a hamster who was plotting against them?
Could it be more America's Choice prizes?
Could it be that America will choose the winner from the final two?
Don't know, but can't wait to find out and it damn well better not be something lame like text in the trivia answer to win big bucks. It's not nice to build up Big Sister's hopes and then dash them with some dumb idea that makes all the fans groan.
And one final thing from that Daily Variety piece. Ghen Maynard said, "It's important to make sure you don't betray the vision of the show. If you do too many tricks or stunts, you betray that." Scary. I hope that is not unfortunate foreshadowing. Could Big Brother be getting ready to jump the shark? They better not.
