The Biggest Losers: Short-Term Sacrifice, Long-Term Gain
Commentary and Recap By RTVC Staff Writer Donna Emery
October 21, 2009
This week on the Biggest Loser, one team enjoyed a week at home, but the other team had the last word, at the weigh-in.

The episode began with a saddened Blue Team, heading back from the elimination room without Coach Mo.

The Black Team was expecting them to have ousted Tracey. Danny’s eyes bugged out and Daniel just looked puzzled.

Amanda commented that she’d thought Tracey would go home first.

Rudy explained the team’s rationale: “Mo was hurting and told us he felt we would be better without him.”

Dina wondered if everyone had agreed with Mo’s decision. They told her they had agreed to send Mo home.

Rudy reinforced their decision; they’d made a choice for the good of the team. “If the Black team doesn’t like it, that’s too bad.”

Tracey was upset. Not only had she lost her former partner, Mo – but she had perceived the reaction of those in the room. “I saw your faces. It’s obvious you all expected me to be gone.” She began crying.

Shay disagreed with Tracey. “That’s NOT it! It’s not about who ISN’T here; it’s about who IS here. Why does Tracey always make everything about her?” Probably the same reason you do, Shay.

Amanda thought the Blue Team had made the wrong choice, but it had been theirs to make. “I’m just glad Tracey isn’t on my team,” she admitted.

The night passed, and a new day began with a tough workout. Jillian was working her team hard, in the gym.

Danny had felt as though he was on Cloud Nine, after his team had won the weigh in last week. “But, now, I’m up against the eight ball. I have work to do.”

Rudy had trouble accepting his own team’s loss, last week. “I’m going to push myself. I’ll do whatever it takes,” he promised.

Tracey was glad she’d gotten clearance from Dr. Huizenga, to work out. It was her first day on the treadmill. “This is my day!” she exulted.”

Liz knew she needed to pick up speed on her own workout.

Bob wanted to be sure to rally his team. “Even though you may not have won the workout, you can win the next challenge.”

That challenge came soon enough. Allison said they’d start this week in a new way: by having a challenge in the first part of the week. They found her waiting on the beach, near a bonfire. She told them there were four keys for each team, and all four were buried deep in the sand, inside some cases. The first team who found all four keys and opened their “treasure chest” would win the challenge. Allison teased them; did they want to know what they’d be playing for?

Of course, they did.

But she didn’t tell them. However, she hinted that the prize would definitely have an influence on who stayed on the Ranch and who went home. She also promised the prize would be worth digging for.

Daniel knew, from experience, that if Allison wouldn’t reveal the prize, it must be really big.

Tracey and Abby had to sit out the challenge. Because of the uneven number of team members, Black had to choose someone else to sit out the challenge. Amanda volunteered. “I don’t like sand,” she confessed.

Dina knew her team wanted to win the weigh-in, so she figured it was important for them to win the prize.

As the clock lagged, the contestants dug in the sand. Everyone was feeling the pressure and the physical strain. “Remember what you’re playing for!” Shay reminded her that they didn’t yet know. Allison smiled; “Well, it’s worth it,” she countered.

After forty minutes, no one was showing signs of stopping, but most of them looked exhausted. The Black Team’s Danny was the first to haul his box out and slip the key into his team’s treasure chest. Once he did this, he looked around to see who, on his team was next closest to completing the dig. Danny chose Daniel and went over to help him. The two men soon freed the Blacks’ second box, and opened the second lock.

Allen was the first Blue Team member to get a box open, and he then rushed to help Rudy. The Blues definitely caught up, and in the end it was enough for them to get all four keys and open their treasure chest. When it was opened, they discovered the prize: everyone gets a ticket home for the week.

Well, everyone – especially Allen and Rudy was missing their family. But Tracey and Rebecca knew that, on the Biggest Loser, no prize comes without a twist, so both asked, “What’s the catch?”

“No catch,” said Allison. “You can.....
