The Biggest Loser: Finding the Treasure Within Yourself

This week, the contestants got down and dirty for the chance to go home and visit their families.

But, then, after they’d won the right to go, the Blue Team decided to stay on the Ranch.

Having faced the elimination room last week, Blue only knew they didn’t want to see it again, soon. Most of them craved a visit with their families, but once Allison reminded them they’d have to give up trainers, the gym and the isolation of the Ranch for their visits, they gladly handed the visit privileges to the Black team.

As much as they may have regretted not seeing their families, they knew what they needed to do, in order for the whole team to stay on the Ranch another week.

It seemed as though their aim this week was to cement their team solidarity and to prove Mo’s “sacrifice” hadn’t been in vain. Of all of them, Tracey probably felt his absence most keenly, as he had been her most ardent advocate. She had to know what her own team thought of her, from their words and body language, in the last elimination room. Despite her frantic pleas to stay, last week, she had to think it was probably a losing battle. When Mo had offered himself, she had to have been surprised; had to know Mo had literally saved her from elimination.

But I don’t think she had expected the other team to assume she’d automatically be gone.

She came back from Mo’s exit, feeling reprieved – but went straight back into being the contestant everyone wanted to see gone. She wanted to celebrate her continuation in the game, and her freedom to begin exercising, but instead she had to claw her way into the gang’s good graces.

The episode’s challenge came early, in order to allow half the contestants to go home. All of them dug fiercely for the unknown prize, except for Amanda, who didn’t like sand.

After everything this group has been through, Amanda doesn’t like SAND? It seems as though she was strong enough to join in. But, surely, if she didn’t participate in the challenge, that could count against her later, right?

You would think so…

The Blue team won the challenge, but it was the Black team who went home. It was interesting to see a glimpse of each of their lives, and of how they tried to incorporate their new, healthy habits into their old lives. Each of them had varying degrees of receptive families and friends; each of them had varying degrees of cooperation from those families and friends.

Amanda’s family was glad to see her, and she seemed very glad to be home. She made some wise decisions at the restaurant, and acted as though she took herself a bit too seriously - just as she does, on the Ranch.

Abby’s family was so sweet, though I’m sure she could have done without the picnic. But Abby, an ounce or two of that brisket probably wouldn’t have been fatal. Just be glad you didn’t go out to dinner with either Dina or Shay’s families.

Both Dina and Shay’s men seemed intent on showing those ladies all the foods they were missing, on their diets. Dina’s husband seem especially hungry at their dinner; I had to wonder if the producers paid for the restaurant visits; just to show how well the contestants stood up to temptations. If not, Dina’s husband acted as though he’d hit the lottery or had a free coupon to the restaurant.

Abby’s family seemed intent.....
