The Biggest Loser: Orange You Sad About the Red Line?
Commentary and Rankings by RTVC Staff Writer Donna Emery

This week on the Biggest Loser, the lines between younger and older alliances became more clearly evident - and one of the groups now has a clear advantage.
Every season, there are alliances. Some are big; some are small. It can be men against women; it can be groups who band together against those they don't like. The alliances are tough, and they sometimes get to the place where not only do they want fiercely to defeat the "enemy" alliance, but they can sometimes become downright mean about it.
This year, the alliances seem to be constructed so that it's younger against older. Are the younger ones out to be sure this season's winner aren't a repeat of Helen and Jerry? Are the older ones just as determined to produce another Helen and Jerry? And, would that mean they want the winners to be Liz and Mo?
It's hard to say.
But, this week, the claws were more evident than ever; the Orange and Pink alliance huddled together and dreamed of picking off Liz, Rudy or Allen; while the older crowd wanted to send one of the younger ones packing. Because there would be two people sent home this week, both groups were looking at ways to put their own alliance in the drivers' seat, for the rest of the season.
And, now, they have.
You gotta wonder why they've never had a red line before. Why did it take 8 seasons for this particular twist? They've sent two at a time home, more than a few times.
And, why did it take that twist to finally eliminate Daniel?
I like Daniel. It's hard NOT to like Daniel. He's a sweet, upbeat kid who got a relatively raw deal last season, from his partner, yet was able to transform himself physically. It was good to see him come back, so we could see his story continue.
In the beginning, having Daniel there was an inspiration and an emotional support to the others. But, after awhile, when so many others were sent home and he still hung in there despite being on the bottom of the ranking, it seemed Daniel really had overstayed his welcome.
So, I'm glad to see he is continuing his weight loss and healthy lifestyle. He looks wonderful and deserves his success. I was glad to see he's found a girlfriend (and can't help but wonder if he met her on the show) and that he's gone on to try to be an example for former partner, David.
As for Shay, I'm so glad she got to lose her hundredth pound before she had to go home. Shay could sometimes be a bit over-the-top in her critiques of others, but she did her best to hang in there despite being heavier than the others. I read an interview with Shay on another online website, and I was glad to say that although the show didn't share how much weight Shay lost since going home, she has lost at least 54 more pounds.
To me, it seemed a BIG coincidence she hit 100 on the same week she was sent home, but you can definitely see the difference in her.
The big controversy this week.....
