The Biggest Loser: One More Time, Under the Line
Commentary and Rankings by RTVC Staff Writer Donna Emery
November 26, 2009
This week on the Biggest Loser, Liz showed us that someone can survive the yellow line numerous times – and emerge to be part of the Final Four.

For me, it was a bitter pill to swallow.

I’d read a spoiler that hinted Allen was going home, but I kept hoping it wasn’t true. Allen is such a nice guy and although I don’t think he could have won, I did hope he’d stay in it until the end. Maybe it’s just me, but, when a contest is in its last heet, I think those who remain in the running to win the prize would be people I want to root for.

This season? Not so much.

The season has seemed quicker this time– and, in fact, it was. There were less contestants at the start – and this time, none of the eliminated contestants got to return for another chance at the prize.

But, from a beginning when everyone seemed pretty nice and likeable, and I wouldn’t have minded if any of them won, now I’m down to hoping for Danny to take it all.

I’ve given my reasons before: Rudy was mean-spirited when he didn’t need to be; Liz has been mean-spirited for quite some time, and dear little Amanda has told me far too often how America sent her to the Ranch. Well, I’m part of America, Amanda – and I’d like my votes back, please.

At this stage of the game, even those I don’t like have my respect (at least as far as their weight loss is concerned). As someone who perpetually struggles with my weight, I admire anyone who is successful at weight loss. Sure, the Ranch is an “artificial environment” and it is probably easier to lose weight when that’s all you have to worry about. But, hey – they are doing it. They’ve emerged the victors, by continuing to lose weight AND by employing whatever strategy would help them survive.

As much as I don’t like Rudy, he’s stayed on top of the rankings for most of this season. He has changed his appearance and is fitter and healthier. I give him major kudos for this. He kind of reminds me of Season One’s winner, Ryan. I didn’t like his needlessly sarcastic comments to and about the others, but I had to admit he’d won the prize by doing what it took, to win. If Rudy wins the prize, I’ll wish he hadn’t, but I won’t be able to say he didn’t deserve it. He hasn’t been “under the line” once, and he’s always given his full effort to the challenges – and he’s been loyal to his team.

Danny is my favorite, and the same can be said of him. Since returning from his home visit, Danny has been a different man – and he’s been using his newfound energy to catch up to Rudy. This week, he finally bested him in the weigh-in, and he’s neck and neck with Rudy in the rankings, this week.

Amanda is a really sweet girl. It’s been nice to see hope and confidence dawning in her; it’s been nice to see her shape up into a beautiful young woman. But, she’s been in the bottom of the rankings for most of the season (only Daniel was lower, and for only a few weeks). So, how did she make it to the Final Four? By being part of a strong alliance – and by having a strong partner who carried her during the first part of the season.

And, just as Danny’s success.....
