The Biggest Loser: Into The Home Stretch
Commentary and Rankings by RTVC Staff Writer Donna Emery

America's choice,
just ask her.
This week on the Biggest Loser, all the contestants went home for two months, and then they returned to run a marathon, and to face another weigh-in.

In the end, the guys showed the girls how to win a weigh-in. After the weigh-in, Liz faced the yellow line once again, along with Amanda.

Did YOU know Amanda was “America’s Choice?”

By now, that refrain is as familiar to us as the product placement slogans this show has drummed into our heads, over the past seasons.

It was good to see the final four at home; contending against the demands of the life they’d left, and good to see them all face the marathon with just a little apprehension. It was also good to see the expected finish of the marathon: Rudy, Amanda, and DannyLiz.

I have to admit: although I thought it possible for Danny to take over the lead, at this weigh-in, I did NOT expect him to wallop Rudy, to the extent that he did. 201 pounds is amazing! He looked great, during the marathon, so I figured he’d lost at least 40 pounds, but to lose almost a pound a day...! If I weren’t already rooting for the guy, I’d surely be rooting for him, now. He has taken over the lead with a vengeance, and looks like a good bet to take the prize. In this game, you never know for sure until the last person weighs in, but if I had to predict now, I’d say he’ll win it all - by at least 2%.

That is not to say Rudy’s accomplishments are less than admirable – or, that Danny has completely stolen my admiration. Rudy has changed his appearance and his lifestyle –despite a work schedule that sounded pretty grueling, when he described it to Bob. For him to have lost 189 pounds, in 5 months is nothing short of amazing. He may have made me angry, a few times during the season, with some of his less-than-stellar comments, but he has done a remarkable job, and deserves the kudos he will undoubtedly get, at the finale.

I do want Danny to win, but I could do without his extreme facial expressions at every event. I could do with a bit less weeping, every time something good – or bad happens. He kind of reminds me of Mark, from Boston, who cried at the drop of a tether ball. And, I’ve heard about his lost dreams, and about how he was a rockstar at age 17, a few times too many. Danny, I’m glad you got your life back, and I do hope you win. But, please: win or lose, you need to live the life you have NOW. If you want glory, adulation or even just to be proud of yourself the way you were, back then, learn how to do that within the limits of the life you have now. If that can’t be done, then make whatever changes you can, and accept whatever changes you can’t make.

So, one of these guys is a pretty sure bet to win, right?

You’d think so. But.....
