The Biggest Loser: Michael Goes Medieval

Designated Villain
This week on the Biggest Loser, the contestants got split into teams, and Michael got to be this season’s latest bad guy.

Hey… Melissa was gone and somebody had to do it.

The episode began with reminding us that Orange’s Cheryl and Black’s Darrel were still competing for the right to stay at the Ranch. They were standing, knees bent, with an Olympic “torch” on their heads. Both of their kids cheered the duo on, but both were challenged by the task. In the end, it was Darrel who was undone by it – and Darrel was eliminated.

Daughter Andrea was predictably distraught at her Dad’s exit from the game. Even Cheryl seemed upset for him. Orange’s Daris encouraged him and told him he would succeed at home; Darrell agreed. He promised Andrea he would do well, but admitted he felt upset to leave the Ranch.

Darrell said he was now a different man than he’d been when he came to the Ranch. “I am self-confident. I am not going to be sitting in front of the TV all day, now. I’m going to take life by the horns.

Andrea called Darrel her best friend. “He’s never let me down. He’s my solid rock. I’ve been proud of him every day he’s been here – and I’ll be proud of what he does, at home.”

The contestants began the next day with a temptation challenge. Hostess Allison Sweeney greeted them. On the table was a huge pile of chocolate chip cookies. Allison told the waiting contestants this was the week they’d be split into Blue and Black teams.

Ashley predicted, “Here comes the drama. Some people will be thrilled; some will be unhappy.”

Allison continued and told them whoever won the temptation challenge would win the right to select everyone’s team and trainer. That person would also get to bestow immunity on any contestant – including himself. After this description, she asked who was willing to play.

Ashley thought she might get into the game, if everyone else decided to play.

Miggy wasn’t sure; she knew choosing the teams would be a big responsibility.

Michael didn’t hesitate. He knew he didn’t want his fate to be in someone else’s hands. He’d been learning the importance of putting himself first, and wanted to remain true to that ideal.

Michael and Andrea were the only ones to compete in the game.

Allison explained they’d be playing a memory game. There was a board, full of little covered windows. Behind each window was a snack – or a “golden ticket” giving the winner the right to choose the teams and grant immunity. Each person would open two windows at a time. If they didn’t find a match, they would be finished with that round of the game. If they found a match, they would get another turn – and the other person would have to eat a cookie.

The game began with Ashley, who found a peanut butter sandwich and a muffin. She had to eat a cookie. Michael found a pop tart and a cupcake; cookie for him. The two continued picking windows for about 20 rounds. Andrea proved adept at matching windows, and Michael ate a lot of fattening snacks – but it took a while to find that ticket. In the end, although Andrea found the ticket (1120 calories later) it was Michael (2310 calories later) who made the match and won the temptation. Both were sickened by all the fattening snacks they’d had to eat. Many of the contestants who sat out the temptation were relieved they hadn’t played and been forced to eat so many unneeded calories.

Michael had won the.....
