Biggest Loser Couples: The Good, The Bad, and The Gameplay - Ranking The Remaining 10
Rankings and Commentary by RTVC Senior Staff Writer Donna Emery
March 31, 2010
This week on the Biggest Loser, the producers decided the game wasn’t already exciting enough – and found a way for the Mistress of Gameplay (aka Melissa) to get back into the game.

It seemed pretty clear to me: that was their intention. If it wasn’t, it was an amazing coincidence. Which – as far as I’m concerned – rarely happens, on this show.

The same week the contestants began competing as singles; the producers brought back the eliminated contestants. Allison told the gang, up front; someone would have a chance to come back to the Ranch. She also said whoever came back would be selected by a vote.

Melissa never had a chance, with this one.

The only person who liked Melissa, when she was on the Ranch, was Lance. And, since Lance went home last week, he was ineligible to vote. He was also not ever in contention to come back, as he wasn’t popular enough, while on the Ranch.

If the remaining players had been allowed to vote for their former partners, there might have been five votes gone to those whose partners still remain. (Or maybe not) But, from the beginning, most people went with their hearts’ leadings. Either they wanted to bring back a close friend from past competitions (John) or “give a chance” to Victoria, who was – clearly – robbed of her opportunity to come to the Ranch.

I’m glad Victoria won.

I’ve got nothing against John. He and his brother both seem like nice guys. But John had his chance; Victoria did not. Both times she came to the Ranch; her access to the Ranch was impeded by her mother’s limitations. It was a no-brainer; she was coming back – although they certainly made it look like a cliffhanger. (It kind of reminds me of the season Aly Vincent came back. Betty Sue made an emotional plea – just as Cherita did, this week – for Aly to return. Aly and Betty Sue had been voted home because of game politics; rather than losing competitions before even getting on the Ranch. But, the way this was done reminds me of Aly’s return – and look what happened, to her. With Victoria’s current weight percentage, it seems unlikely she could win the whole shebang, but stranger things have happened.)

As for the second chance for these eliminated contestants, the challenge seemed tailor-made for Melissa. Few of the others were as fit as Melissa; none were as driven. Last week, Lance had a conscience attack because he wasn’t home, helping Melissa on the farm. Did he somehow know; he’d be needed there, because Melissa had a chance to return? It seems like it is too good to be true; just as he came home, to help, she was back on the Ranch.

She certainly didn’t get a heroes’ welcome. No one cheered when she won – except Lance. No one seems thrilled to see her. If the preview for next week is any indication, everyone is sorry she’s back. Count me as part of that list. No matter whether it’s true that she waterloaded during her previous stay, at the Ranch, her manipulations and gameplay were almost as legendary as the former Queens of Gameplay (Vicki, Heba and Tracy).

But, she’s back. And, as Jillian said.....
