Biggest Loser Families: Ladies’ Night on the Biggest Loser
Episode 13 Recap by Donna Emery
December 17, 2008
This week on the Biggest Loser, we saw 16 inspiring transformations, but I have to say it was the ladies who impressed me most.
The finale always brings its share of jaw-dropping entrances, and it never fails to bring a tear to my eyes to see the people I rooted for – and, yes, even the ones I wanted to go home in disgrace – make such visible changes in their bodies, health and lives.
The live finale began with a montage of moments that reminded us why we love this show. They showed us past winners, and showcased past seasons’ contestants who have maintained their healthy lifestyles. We saw last season’s Jerry – healthy and thriving; his former opponent Bernie, who now runs in races and enjoyed a peek at Biggest Loser lovers Amy & Marty, and the first Biggest Loser parents: Matt and Suzy.
We viewed moments from this season’s audition tapes. They proved how far everyone has come.
We were welcomed to the show by hostess Allison Sweeney, who had obviously had a physical transformation of her own: she was visibly pregnant. She laughed when she confirmed she will have a baby in about a month, but assured the audience it wouldn’t happen last night. She briefly reminded us which contestants had made it to the Final Four, and reminded us we had a choice of who would become the third finalist. After that, she introduced Heba.
After a season of thinking of Heba as “the biggest girl”, it was amazing to see how great she looks now. Although I would have chosen a black camisole under the dress she wore, it definitely showed off the work she has done. Her face was transformed. She slipped briefly as she walked on the floor, but she wasn’t the last to do so.
Next came her husband, Ed. He also looked amazing. Although his face looks like the person we’ve come to know on the show, his body is definitely trimmer.
Allison asked Ed how his family and friends have reacted to his trimmer figure. “Nobody knows who I am, now,” he replied. Allison then reminded us of Ed’s plea to let Heba be a finalist, instead of him. Ed repeated his desire; “she deserves it”. However, a resounding majority of voters (84%) disagreed with him, because it was Ed who America chose to be a finalist.
Ed and Heba took it philosophically. “If America chose my husband to compete for the prize, then we’re both winners.” She didn’t look upset.
After the vote was revealed, it was time for Allison to bring out the 12 other rejected contestants. First, she brought out Green teamers Adam and Stacey. They’d been eliminated on Week one, and Stacey had already distinguished herself on the week that the eliminated contestants returned to the Ranch. She had almost won the right to return, during the stepping contest.
Although Adam had obviously shed some weight, he still looked much the same. Stacey, however, looked completely different. She wore a beautiful black dress that shows off her new, athletic figure. Her face was even different.
Next came the Grey Team: L.T. and Tom. The father and son who were eliminated on Week Two had both lost a lot of weight, but they’d started out heavy and still have a way to go. After a break, these four faced the Big Scale.
Adam was 340 lbs and now weighs 260. He lost 80 pounds, for a percentage of 23.53%
Stacey was 221 lbs and now weighs 156. She lost 65 pounds, for a percentage of 29.41%
L.T. was 357 lbs and now weighs 270. He lost 87 pounds, for a percentage of 24.37%
Tom was 314 lbs and now weighs 236. He lost 78 pounds, for a percentage of 24.84%
The leader, so far, was Stacey.
Allison next welcomed the Yellow Team of Jerry and Coleen. Jerry had begun the show looking sick, old and overweight. He now looks lean and trim. The show’s medical advisor Dr. Huizenga congratulated Jerry on his obvious transformation. Dr. H. said Jerry had added years to his life; his face shows how much younger he looks. Coleen hadn’t lost much more weight than she’d taken off, on the show, but she looked wonderful in a slimming black dress.
Next came the Purple Team: Shellay and Amy. Shellay really blew me away with her slim and fit body; Amy looked like a different person. Both of them chose flattering dresses, and Amy’s new hairstyle really flattered her face.
The four weighed in, as follows:
Jerry was 380 lbs and now weighs 265. He lost 115 pounds, for a percentage of 30.26%
Coleen was 218 lbs and now weighs 164. She lost 64 pounds, for a percentage of 29.36%
Shellay was 216 lbs and now weighs 142. She lost 74 pounds, for a percentage of 34.26%
Amy was 239 lbs and now weighs 135. She lost 104 pounds, for a percentage of 43.51%
“Purple” Amy was now in the lead.
Allison kept bringing out the contestants, and the next bunch was very inspirational. She brought out the Red Team: Phil and Amy. Phil looks incredible, and I like his bald head. He looks as though he is really healthier. Amy was almost unrecognizable in a slinky red dress. Next, came the Pink team’s Mom, Renee and the Brown team’s husband, Brady. Renee looked stunning in a black dress and cute hairstyle. I loved seeing her husband holding up a sign that says “Love Never Fails”. Brady looked trim and better looking than ever. Ali joked with Renee and Brady about their finalist family members: Michelle and Vicky. Both said that their family members had done amazing jobs.
Soon, this foursome faced the scale, along with Heba. Here are the results of their weigh-ins.
Phil was 331 lbs and now weighs 180. He lost 151 pounds, for a percentage of 45.62%
“Red” Amy was 229 lbs and now weighs 124. She lost 105 pounds, for a percentage of 45.85%
Brady was 341 lbs and now weighs 224. He lost 117 pounds, for a percentage of 44.31%
Renee was 267 lbs and now weighs 161. She lost 106 pounds, for a percentage of 39.7%
Heba was 294 lbs and now weighs 156. She lost 1038 pounds, for a percentage of 46.94%
Heba had the biggest.....
