Canadian Idol: Top Seven Week - No Time For Losers
Recap by Jon Dos
August 8, 2007
Last up is Jaydee Bixby. May and Taylor point out Jaydee sings with a smile but the song he has chosen has a lot of angst. They would like to see more seriousness and meaning. They do think Jaydee is a wonderful, emerging talent and is amazing at 16 years to be that accomplished.
Jaydee goes country with "I Want To Break Free." Jaydee brings back the decent vocals but the phoniness is back as well. Brian May address Jaydee's smiling and I can't believe Jaydee didn't even follow his advice. In a way, I find this disrespectful and I'm really disappointed.
Sass: "Elvis is still in the building!"
Zack: Zack doesn't know what to say but he found Jaydee to be "oddly appealing."
Jake: Jake likes the messy hair and how it works for Jaydee in this rock milieu. However, the song was about wanting to break free. Jaydee sang well but didn't get the message across. Brian May even pointed that out and Jaydee didn't listen. Ouch!
Farley: "Jaydee is what Jaydee does." Farley was convinced that Jaydee was a city slicker but when he saw the boots, he knew it was Jaydee.
Tonight was actually a decent night. I'd say everyone did a great job with the exception of Matt and the two guys who the fan girls love, Greg and Jaydee. Don't expect either Greg or Jaydee of them to land in the bottom though. I think Matt's time is up and he'll be joined by Brian who doesn't deserve to be in the bottom. If there's a third person, I guess I'll stick with Dwight as usual. There's also a chance Carly might end up there so don't make any assumptions just yet!
First Mila, then Khalila, then Martha. Which favourite will I lose next? Ben teases us that tomorrow will feature two special performances unlike ever done before on the show. I can't wait!
Results Show
Ben welcomes us, and once again to a darkly lit audience with their glow sticks. He teases us about a special performance later in the show by the star of "We Will Rock You," Yvan Pedneault, but first we say hello to our judges and get a recap of last night's show, which you can read here if you missed out due to long weekend festivities (http://).
We are now treated to two videos back to back. The first video features the Idols' visit to the Canon theatre to see "We Will Rock You." The first clip includes a performance of "Bohemian Rhapsody" by the Toronto cast and from the few seconds we are shown, it looks and sounds phenomenal and I actually think I'll catch a show while I still can.
After their performance, Brian May addresses the Idols. He thinks all seven Idols are wonderful artists. He thinks things are now revolving more around singer/songwriters and God bless them.
Here's some trivia to all of you readers. The Toronto production of "We Will Rock You" features Danny Balkwill and Kelly-Ann Evans from Season One's Top 32, and Erica Peck, who was cut at the Top 48 during Season Three for reasons unknown. In the second video, the Idols get to perform "The Show Must Go On" with the Toronto cast, and it makes me want to see the show even more!
Next up the Idols perform a Queen song I am not familiar with and "We Will Rock You." It's a good performance but it gets even better when Yvan Pedneault joins the Idols for the latter song. There is no denying the talent Yvan has and his career could potentially go beyond theatre. He has the look and the pop star voice and could be the next best thing.
It is now time to get to the results. The voting totals aren't revealed tonight, so it looks like no one voted again! Tonight, we're back to our usual bottom 3.
First up is Dwight, and he is safe. Next up is Carly Rae, and she is the first person in the bottom 3. Ben tries to fake Tara but she is safe this week. Brian learns his fate, and he is the second person in the bottom 3. Matt, Greg, and Jaydee learn their fate together, and the final person in the bottom 3 is… Greg! What!
Farley is asked if he is surprised by the bottom 3. Farley says, "With great respect to the Canadian public, that's absolutely ridiculous."
What does Sass want to say to the bottom 3? Sass says, "No matter what you do, if you really want to do this, it doesn't matter what happens here, you'll do it anyways."
Zack is put in the hot seat and is asked who is going home tonight. Zack says, "The world is upside down, Carly Rae is going home."
Finally, Jake is asked to give advice to whoever is leaving. Before Jake addresses the question, he lets us know that the bottom 3 were actually his top 3 last night. He goes on to say that "any one of them will have a successful career."
Before we cut to a commercial break, Ben will announce the first safe singer and that person is Carly Rae. It's now between Brian and Greg, and guess what? It looks like my streak is going to continue for the fourth week in a row! This is utterly ridiculous.
After the break, Ben delivers the dreadful news, "Greg, you didn't receive enough votes." Ben tells us what's on everyone's minds and that is that "Canada got this wrong." The judge's faces say it all. Zack looks pissed off and Sass is clearly shocked. In Greg's farewell video, he says this has been the best summer of his life. This will be something he'll never forget and hopes his fans will be there with him as he moves on with his career.
I'm on the verge of giving up on this show. This is just ridiculous. Greg eliminated at an early point in the competition again?! If Brian is eliminated next week, I will seriously stop watching. I've never been this pissed off at an elimination and it never crossed my mind that I would stop watching this show.
Next week is a "Pop/Rock" theme featuring Adam Levine and the gang of Maroon 5. What sucks is that Greg would've absolutely loved to meet Maroon 5 but thanks to Canada he's going to miss out.
Brian, you're my last hope, otherwise this season will be an ever bigger flop than last season. Remember Canada, if Brian goes next week, you are all fired!
