Dancing With The Stars: Here's The Initial Rankings!
Commentary and Rankings by RTVC Staff Writer Joseph Braverman
March 5, 2010
As much as it pains me to shift my loyalty back to a show that has made me frustrated for two years in a row, I have to say I am excited to be back ranking the new cast of Dancing with the Stars .

True, I will never comprehend America’s decision to crown Donny Osmond and Shawn Johnson the winners of Dancing with the Stars Season’s Eight and Nine, but I am still holding out hope that someday America will choose the right contestant to win.

Granted, Dmitry did blow it for Mya big time by choosing that cheesy “Hairspray” routine to perform, but I still could not stomach the fact that one of the more annoying and less deserving contestants of the season, Donny Osmond, was the winner.

The same can be said about Shawn Johnson, but that is all in the past and we are starting a brand new season. After the cast lineup was announced I must say I am more excited for this group of celebrities than I have ever been for any other DWTS cast lineup

There are many great choices this season that it will be difficult to provide an accurate ranking, but I have confidence in myself that my choices are made with appropriate logic and rationale.

Since so much of this show is about fan base, and where America’s interests are currently, I think I can make a pretty accurate estimate about which contestants are going to be safe week one, regardless of their dance moves, and which ones are in the danger zone.

This is my first ever initial rankings for Dancing with the Stars, and usually I am opposed to ranking before seeing the dancing, but this cast lineup has some extremely recognizable faces that it makes it a lot easier to divide the posers from the contenders.

I do also want to mention that I hope Melissa Rycroft gets the co-host gig, as she is endearing and extremely well spoken. I thought Melissa was robbed in her season, but her triumphant return can be best utilized by showcasing herself as Tom Bergeron’s “wing-girl” when interviewing the celebrities.

I know Melissa is the right girl for the job, and I wish her all the best of luck, because she deserves it. Just the previews of Jason and Molly’s wedding already makes me want to hurl and be back on Team Melissa, like I was adamantly last year.

After that last statement, you may be surprised to learn that…SHOCKER…I am a Jake and Vienna fan! I’m more of an Ali fan, but Jake and Vienna are awesome, and I look forward to Vienna rooting for Jake each week.

Other contestants I am optimistic about are Shannen Doherty, who covets my Aaron Spelling-related celebrity spot, keeping my Aaron Spelling conspiracy theory very much alive and active.

I don’t know what influence Spelling has in the after-life, but he is doing a great job since I have enjoyed all the contestants associated with his television shows that have been on this program, and Shannen is certainly no exception.

There are a few people I would not have minded not being on the season – Kate Gosselin, Buzz Aldrin, the Olympic medalist, and the football player.

The latter two I detest mostly because they fill this role every time, and the Olympians almost always win even if they are relatively boring – I’m looking at you Apolo Ono and Shawn Johnson.

Kate Gosselin just seems like another Heather Mills waiting to happen, and Buzz Aldrin is another old person who may just overstay their welcome, much like that detestable creature named Cloris Leachman.

Thank you for reading my initial rankings of the new DWTS cast! I look forward to hearing your comments, questions, concerns, and opinions on my article. Enjoy the season, because I sure will!

Here are my rankings for the eleven contestants of Season Ten of Dancing with the Stars:
