Dancing with the Stars: Mya Peaks While Joanna Keeps Giving More!
Commentary and Rankings By RTVC Staff Writer Joseph Braverman

Who would have thought?
This was an exciting week on Dancing with the Stars.
The double elimination continued and the contestants had to perform their seasonal team battle. The teams were divided into Team Paso Doble and Team Tango, and as anyone who watches this show season to season knows that Team Tango is always better. I am not saying Team Tango isn’t comprised of more talented individuals, because it certainly was, but the tango just seems to glide across the floor more succinctly and less chaotic.
Paso Doble’s when in a team format just look too clunky and chaotic, that they lack the sophistication and synchronicity of a Tango. However, I think both teams did serviceably well, but it was clear that Team Tango was the clear winner. Their final synchronous kicks when in hold, side to side, were absolutely mesmerizing to watch, and I have to believe that master-class choreographer, Derek, had something to do with that routine. Someone give this kid an Emmy already!
As for Team Paso Doble, not even the inclusion of Aaron or Mya could overcome the shortcomings of Mark and Michael Irvin. Now I know there are a good proportion of viewers out there whole are very vocal about their love for Mark Dacascos, but can you honestly take this guy’s dancing seriously when he is pulling hammy facial expressions one after the other? I can never take Mark seriously, and thus the dance as a whole came off more campy than grounded in impressive power.
Now I want to discuss the individual performers this week. No one, and I mean, no one suspected Joanna would be a great dancer, let alone go this far. Of all the celebrities in the competition, Joanna was probably the most unknown contestant of the show, and the fact that she has lasted so long is testament to the power of dedication and palpable effort made on the dance floor. Joanna gives it everything she has, and so much more.
Technically, she is impressive, but her chemistry with Derek is extraordinary and most important, she sells the dance with her performance abilities. Joanna Krupa proves that you don’t have to have the largest fan base to do well in this competition. In fact, she is beginning to look more and more like the technically groomed Brooke Burke each week of the competition.
However, Joanna excited me more than Brooke did, because she has so much passion to do well and win. Joanna is the type of performer I root for, because she’s not just there for publicity – she is tackling a challenge and performing her hardest to try to overcome and defeat it. For me, Joanna Krupa has been the most consistent performer of the year, as well as the most excitable to watch, and definitely the easiest on the eyes. Honestly, is there anyone worth rooting for at this stage of the competition other than Joanna?
Even though this will never happen, I sincerely hope that Aaron and Karina face-off against Joanna in the finale, with Mya coming in third place. That would be my ideal scenario, as those three are the best technicians of the competition.
However, Aaron and Karina and Joanna and Derek seem to grow each and every week, and you can tell from their demeanor that they both really want to win. I know message boarders absolutely cannot stand the two of them. I can get the annoyance with Aaron for his hyper-activity and cockiness, but I cannot understand the hate for Joanna.
Oh wait, I do – it’s the classic.....
