Forever Eden News:
May 22, 2004
Forever Eden and Playing It Straight are not coming back. Yes FOX said they would be back this summer. Yes FOX made a commitment of 25 episodes of Eden, the show I love to hate. Yes the very likeable Playing It Straight had a much shorter 6 episode commitment. Yes FOX forgets that it's commitment extends to it's viewers.

After playing scheduling madness with both shows - seven episodes of Forever Eden on four different nights - FOX decided the ratings were not good enough. Neither show was going to get American Idol numbers, but given a chance and a time slot they would have done ok.

FOX says fans who ask will be told how the shows ended. But they have said nothing about the procedure for that. And it's possible that the 25 episodes of Forever Eden might get picked up by a cable network some where along the line. I hope so, I miss slamming it, and judging from the traffic to this site's Forever Eden page a lot of you miss it too.

But there is a bigger issue here than ratings for a couple of shows. And I'll grant that whether or not either show would have ever done well or even deserved to be aired in the first place is a point that can be debated either way. The real issue here is the lack of respect that FOX shows to it's viewers. FOX forgets who really puts the Ford in their garage. It's not the advertising agency that bought the spots, it's not FoMoCo. It's the viewers who's numbers are significant enough to warrant buying those spots. Maybe those numbers were not a high as FOX wanted, but what about the next Reality TV show they offer? The Casino premieres on June 8th. If the first few episodes don't do well, will they cancel it? How will you as a viewer feel after investing time in another FOX show that gets pulled before it's over? Will you stop watching shows because you never know if you'll get to see it all. Why get interested in the people when the network may pull the plug at any time. Remember with Reality TV it is the people we watch. Get viewers interested and then take them away without resolution or closure and you irritate and alienate your audience.

Reality TV is a huge boon to the networks. It is much cheaper to produce than scripted shows. It can be plugged in on short notice. It makes year round new programming possible. It can be a huge boost to ratings and dollars. But if the networks continue to disrespect the viewers they will lose in the end. The FOX is in the hen house and breaking eggs. Don't be so greedy.

April 21, 2004
It's official. Fox has announced that the show will return in June. No further information is available at this time. Keep an eye on this page.

April 14, 2004
Yesterday we thought we heard her warbling in the distance. Today she is belting it out center stage ..... the fat lady has sung. It's over for Forever Eden. What was one of the most intriguing Reality TV concepts to come along was so poorly produced and horrendously cast that only 7 of the first 25 episodes aired. FOX officially cancelled the show after ratings from last Friday night's episode gave FOX the worst Friday night in the network's history. It's possible they could air the the remaining 16 episodes this summer. We'll let you know if they do. We'll miss the show we love'd to hate.

April 13, 2004
Is forever over? We're guessing the answer is yes for whinefest ratings loser Forever Eden. The show was replaced this Friday by a baseball game and there were rumors that it was over. Then FOX scheduled the show for Friday the 23rd. Well that has been changed. The 23rd will now feature four separate half hour video clip shows. FOX reportedly booked 25 episodes of the Reality TV show that could go on forever. Sixteen have not yet aired. If this really is the end of the show we have mixed feelings. The concept was so good, but the execution of the concept, the manipulation by the producers, and the casting of the whining melodramatic misfits was so bad. We do hope that someone will try something like this again, but get it right. We'll keep you updated.

April 11, 2004
It's not over yet. Fox has scheduled the next new episode of Forever Eden ( 8 ) for Friday April 23rd at 9pm e/p. There was no banishment in episode 7 and Michelle arrived at the end of the episode. Expect episode 8 to be even more dramatic than usual.

April 10, 2004
Last night's Episode 7 featured no banishment ceremony and no payday for the guests. There is still no word on when Episode 8 and beyond will air. But the FOX website was updated this morning with the arrival of Michelle in last night's episode, so perhaps they have not given up on it yet. As soon as we know, you'll know.

April 9, 2004
Episode 7 is scheduled for tonight at 9pm e/p, but after that .... we don't know and FOX isn't talking. Forever Eden is not on the FOX schedule for next week. There is a baseball game on Friday night, and the previous Forever Eden Thursday night time slot is now held by an encore presentation of next week's The Swan episode. Is it over .... we don't know and they won't say, but as soon as we find out, we'll post it here.

April 1, 2004
RTVC is happy to announce that Kelley Rhodes will be taking over recap duties for this show starting with the April 2nd episode. Kelley is a full-time mom, part-time reality tv junky and would-be writer. You can contact her at kacir03@yahoo.com

March 31, 2004
Fox is moving Forever Eden from Thursday to Friday at 9pm e/p and it may be over for the ratings loser.
Don't you just want to hit them up the side of the head and ask them what they are thinking? How about a new Reality show? Here's the concept, we explore the mind of a television network programer. A reality show about someone who is not in touch with reality! It's got hit written all over it.
Ok ..... Forever Eden has earned poor ratings and has been slammed by the media, including this writer for it's incomprehensible rules and producers who manipulate the natural storylines to tell their version of the universe. But the show's basic concept.....running forever, guests who openly earn money based on how long they stay, and have the opportunity to use that money to further themselves or others in the game.....these are ground breaking concepts for Reality TV. Unfortunately, they seem to have exhausted their lot of good ideas with these.
Now Fox comes along in a typical "What Were They Thinking?" moment and moves a show that appeals to young demographics to the death slot - Friday nights at 9pm e/p. They booked 25 episodes, and hyped that it could go on forever. Have they given up on it?
The show was being filmed in Port Antonio, Jamaica. The Jamaica Observer quotes the country's Film Commissioner as saying, "Having completed the initial season, the producers commented to us that they were blown away by the level of expertise available to them in Jamaica. This augurs very well for succeeding shoots as the other companies always refer to the previous experience before making their own final commitment."
So is the show over, or does a continuing "Forever" show have a season that is complete. Did everybody go on vacation and they are coming back? My bet......we won't even see the originally scheduled 25 episodes. Why? Egomaniacal producers and clueless programmers.

March 23, 2004
According to the mother of Forever Eden's Kassie her no-doubt virginal daughter didn't "do it." Kassie's Mom says Kassie "didn't have sex with that guy." Even though Mommy watched innocent Kassie wake up in bed with a man she had met only days before...not to mention doing this on national TV. Mom says "I know my daughter, and she's 21 and regardless of how that looked, there wasn't anything further. To put it bluntly, I know my daughter didn't have sex with that guy," Deborah Miller told the Decatur Daily. She insists "I've watched enough TV, and you know what's said at the time or the way it may look could be pieced together and not be what happened at all." Yeah, Hollywood special effects transported them into the bed against their will where they did absolutely nothing. You can't use the excuse of "editing" if the camera actually caught you doing and saying it.

March 19, 2004
Forever Eden moves from Monday to Thursday next week on Fox. The show continues to struggle in the ratings, drawing smaller audiences with each episode. The March 15 edition hit a new low attracting only 4.3 million views. At it's current rate of losing one million viewers a week nobody will be watching a month from now. All of which makes you wonder why Fox has moved it to Thursday nights at 9pm, opposite mega-hit, The Apprentice? Reportedly Fox ordered 25 episodes of Forever Eden.....have they given up on it?

March 17, 2004
Why does Forever Eden seem so manipulated....maybe even scripted? Why do the quests / contestants seem so confused and clueless about how to play / stay in Eden? It could be that Executive Producer Bruce Toms is on a power trip that makes the contestants childish outbursts pale by comparison. In an interview with the Independent, Toms says, "I enjoy playing God with the contestants. Manipulating their lives, being a puppet-master...." Sources say he is so bent on creating the story that they shoot retakes and manipulate things by changing rules: "We can't be too Machiavellian but we certainly whisper suggestions in contestants' ears and change the rules to get our story. And we always get our story." To what end? The show continues a downward spiral in the ratings, losing over a million viewers per episode. Mr. Toms needs a WAKE UP call! The audience wants reality, not your vision of the universe. Just let it happen.

March 9, 2004
Accounting seems to be a bit flaky on Forever Eden. Or maybe it's just us. The rules state that if you voluntarily leave Eden as Khalilah did in Episode 3, you forfiet all your coins. She was allowed to pass all eight of her coins to Neveen. That's nice for Neveen but seems unfair to the rest of the contestants who, we assume will be required to play by the rules. But even with only three episodes shown it is obvious the producers are making up the rules as they go along.

March 4, 2004
There's trouble in Paradise/Eden. The new Fox RTV entry, Forever Eden took a ratings dive in it's premiere episode. The very very Paradise Hotel like show had a 19.3 million viewer lead in from American Idol, an 8.3 rating/22 share in the Adults 18-49 demographic , according to preliminary Nielsen ratings estimates reported by Reuters, Forever Eden's premiere did not do well, delivering 11 million viewers and a 5.2/13 Adults 18-49 rating/share.
