Kara
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 2
Almost instantly when I saw Kara's tuxedo dress, I fell in love. It was the first look this whole season that I would buy if I was a woman. She even managed to get that week one tie in a full concept outfit. I was happily surprised how well the dress looked with or without leggings. There was a great timelessness and the fact that Kara is very headstrong with her androgyny for the white dresses she made. The black and grey dress on the other hand looked a bit like a five-year-olds nightgown, like the creepy girl from The Ring movies had that as her alternate dress

Nzimiro
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 6
I had the same hesitations that Nicole did with Nzimiro when he said he was picking a sweater, but he made the designs work by adding that travel aspect to the advertisement. While I didn't see a difference between his first and second looks because they were so beige, I liked all three outfits and understood where he was going with them. Those sweaters could dress both up and down, which was the key to his success this week. As the lone menswear designer (especially now that Ross isn't around), Nzmiro is a lock for the finals. Now he has to just wait until one of the weak links messes up.

Luciana
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking 1
Luciana has found her footing with the powerful woman aesthetic and created a hunter looking for her prey in her photoshoot. I actually don't think she needed the trees at all because she could have gotten her model to look really fierce without the use of a tree. If Tyra Banks' model-hopefuls could do it, then someone on Fashion Star could pull it off. Her designs were generally strong, though I think the pink-patterned dress was her best. Luciana got a low-ball price from Saks, but the fact of the matter was that she was safe.

Ronnie
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 3
This week's design looked eerily familiar to a lot of designs that Ronnie made, but the one saving grace from him was that he had a really cool advertisement. I thought the red balloons made the blue dress pop. Maybe if Ronnie experimented with a stronger color palate, or even length of the dress, I would have appreciated him trying to push his boundaries, but this week felt like Ronnie knew that Nikki, Orly, and Ross had ugly designs and he would be right in the middle. If I was H&M and I had to choose between those three and Ronnie, I'd also pick Ronnie because his designs at least look like they could fit in a store. If he keeps going this way, he'll make it to the finale, but lose.

Orly
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 4
Even though she's grown out of the "twofer" dresses, Orly hasn't gotten rid of the zipper detail. It almost seems as though the outfit she made could have other accessories zipped onto the vest she made. While I thought the unzipped vest dress looked the best, it seemed more like an accessory throwaway like Kara's week one tie. The color choices weren't the best and the pattern was a bit too retro for my taste. I think like Ronnie, Orly had a great advertisement. The outfit didn't translate, but apparently for the buyers to make it worse, they criticized her signature for being a squiggle. Only when you're insanely famous do you get to sign your name as a squiggle.

Nikki
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 6
I think Nikki shot herself in the foot when she decided to not only have a photoshoot with a plain white background, but also deciding to crop her photo into more of a headshot. If Nikki was such a beachwear designer and they allowed Ronnie and Orly to go outdoors, why didn't Nikki think of going outside? A quick beach shot would have matched Nikki perfectly, but even if that wasn't available I think that any city shot could be a great juxtaposition between her maxi dress and the cold concrete city. I also think Nikki hasn't shown any range whatsoever and while she seemed to be creative with the strapping detail, the fact that she doesn't know how to sew is hurting her aesthetic.
