The Glass House: A Kinder, Gentler Big Brother?

It starts tonight.
“CBS’s, “Big Brother’s” an addiction. It’s a guilty pleasure. I know many of us are hooked.
I honestly don’t expect that to change much this summer.
I know many hardcore, Big Brother fans are threatened by the prospect of a new kid on the block; the unfettered debut of, ABC’s, “The Glass House.” But let’s face it, “Big Brother” has had it’s faults.
Maybe that’s the reason ABC’s, “The Glass House,” has to air.
Maybe there’s a reason it’s being executive produced by former, CBS, “Big Brother,” producer, Kenny Rosen.
Got thoughts? Post them at the end.
Maybe there’s a reason he’s being aided by at least twenty seven former Big Brother staffers.
Maybe there’s a reason they’ve jumped ship.
Maybe watching this show will show us why they’re fighting so hard for this.
I know, on the surface, ABC’s ”The Glass House,” looks similar to Big Brother. But, maybe the devil’s in the details.
Maybe they should be pointing out the differences between the two shows to Federal Judge, Gary Allen Feess.
Then again, as they’ve already won, they probably already did.
The Judge noted, in his June 18, 2012, opinion not to order an injunction to stop the show from airing, that while a lot of things look the same, “The idea, in my view, cannot be copyrighted.”
He told CBS to feel free to pursue their lawsuit. (Like they would stop!) But, he says, he doesn’t feel that they’ll win. Not in the long run.
I’m inclined to agree. Not because ABC, hasn’t stolen away CBS’s baby. Because, let’s face it,they have.
They may not look exactly the same. They’re not in any way twins. But, they do come from the same Mom. But, as the judge noted, ripping off a Reality TV format hass has been done and done and done.
Reality TV producers, well they’re often thieves. They steal from themselves. Plus, too much money is involved.
ABC won’t let this go, and CBS won’t be undone. So, they won’t give up. But, I still think ABC’s already won.
