The Glass House
The Glass House premieres Monday, June 18th at 10pm ET following The Bachelorette.
Or, maybe not.
ABC says it will and CBS says it won't.
As you probably know CBS is suing ABC over the show.
We'll get into the show itself after a quick recap of the court action.
CBS says The Glass House is a blatant ripoff of Big Brother. They allege it's a “carbon copy” of our favorite summer show.
In addition to being a house wired with cameras and mics where one person tries to survive to the end and win the money CBS claims that there are 25 to 30 former Big Brother production personnel working on the ABC show. And that includes Executive Producer Kenny Rosen.
CBS wants the court to prevent the show from airing.
So far two judges have recused themselves from the case. It was finally picked up by a third judge who agreed to hear it.
CBS filed a request for a restraining order to prevent the show from airing on the 18th.
ABC wanted any court decision to wait until after the premiere. Maybe so we could see just how much like Big Brother it really isn't.
The judge turned down ABC's request and gave them until 5pm PT, June 11th to respond to the CBS motion for a restraining order.
Presumably sometime following that the judge will issue a decision to either let the show air or not.
I'm guessing it's on.
Yeah, there are aspects of the show that are derivative of Big Brother. And some that are derivative of Survivor. And some that are derivative of Real World.
What television show isn't derivative of another? How many singing competitions have we had?
The bigger question for me is why does The Glass House have between 25 and 30 former Big Brother staffers on the team? Is this some kind of rebellion? Were they feeling like their ideas were not being heard and they could do it better?
We've complained for years that Big Brother was getting stale and needed a shakeup. Maybe The Glass House crew feels the same.
Anyway, the cast has been announced, ABC has released an FAQ that describes how it all works and they've given us a release that details all the action in the first episode.
