Hell's Kitchen: Chef Ramsay Walks Out
Recap and Scoreboard by James Kuz
September 24, 2009
After a week off from Hell’s Kitchen it’s time to get back to business! Not only that, but we got two hours this week! It’s time to find out who’s going to make it to the final five!
Last time we said goodbye to Andy who definitely made it farther than he should have. The other surprise is that Suzanne is now on the blue team and things could get ugly. This week since there are two episodes I’m just going to give a quick summary of what happened in the challenges, service, and at elimination.
The first of two episodes featured the final seven battling it out.
Challenge:
When all the chefs came down for the challenge they were greeted by Chef Scott with Chef Ramsay nowhere to be found. A monitor then pops out from the ceiling and on the screen is Chef Ramsay in Whistler! He takes them on a little tour of the Araxi restaurant and then tells them that for their next challenge they will have to create three entrees using 15 ingredients from Whistler before he returns to Hell’s Kitchen. Both teams get right to work, but in both teams there seems to be a lack of teamwork. On the red team Sabrina is given the cold shoulder by Ariel and Tennille, while on the blue team, no surprise, Suzanne is getting left out. When it comes time for judging the entrees Chef Ramsay comes in with figure skater Sasha Cohen and skier Jonny Moseley. They will both be judging the entrees. Ariel and Kevin come up with the first entrees and both of them pick the blue team’s entrée. Next up is Sabrina and Van and this time they both go with the red team. With the score 2-2 it comes down to Tennille and Dave. Tennille makes a fool out of herself when she calls the venison, lamb, even though Sabrina knew she was calling it the wrong thing the whole time but didn’t say anything. It was a unanimous decision by both of them for the blue team’s entrée. The blue team wins and gets to dine at Campanile in Los Angeles, while the red team have to go to a local farm and do work…Ouch.
Service:
For service Chef Ramsay tells both teams they will be designing their own menu. The blue team really comes together and agrees on the dishes they want to do. Unfortunately, the same thing can’t be said for the red team. Tennille takes leadership and the team doesn’t like her suggestions, especially Sabrina, even though she didn’t really contribute anything. At service the red team struggles right from the very beginning. Tennille wasn’t sure about how to make some of the garnish that Ariel suggested; Ariel served three frozen ravioli in a row, and Sabrina struggled on the halibut. Things went pretty smoothly in the blue team for awhile, but things went down hill drastically. Van wasn’t focused and was cooking too many portions of scallops and had major trouble with the halibut just like Sabrina. Chef Ramsay finally calls both Sabrina and Van over and tells them to shut it down.
Elimination:
Before elimination the blue team agreed on putting Van up, but later he tries to convince the guys that Suzanne should go up since she is the weakest cook. On the red team Sabrina seems like the likely nominee, but she eventually turns on Tennille since she decided the menu and it stunk. At elimination the blue team sticks to nominating Van and the red team puts Sabrina up. Chef Ramsay makes his decision and sends Sabrina home. “She had a big heart,” Chef says, “but it’s time to take those red lips and whistle on out of here.”
