Hell's Kitchen: It’s Still Like Pulling Teeth
Recap and Scoreboard by James Kuz
September 30, 2009
It’s getting down to the wire on the Hell’s Kitchen! Will Chef Ramsay walk out again tonight? Let’s hope not, but let’s find out!
Last week we were treated to two hours of Hell’s Kitchen with two new episodes. Unfortunately for Sabrina and Van the journey to Whistler was cut short. That leaves only five chefs left: Ariel, Dave, Kevin, Suzanne, and Tennille.
Challenge:
This week is the chef’s first individual challenge. Chef Ramsay tells the chefs that the challenge is about making a dish that looks as good as it tastes.
He then tells them that the writers from Bon Appetite magazine will be judging the presentation of each of the dishes and picking the top two.
Then the top two will face off on how good their dishes actually taste. All the chefs get working on their dishes. Time eventually runs out and the writers start looking at each of the chef’s dishes.
Dave has a hard time explaining his dish, which might hurt his chances. The judges then give their scorecards to Chef Ramsay and he reveals that Tennille came in fifth place and Suzanne came in fourth. Chef then says that Kevin was judged the highest and that second place came down to Dave and Ariel.
Ariel is awarded second place and brings her dish up with Kevin’s to Chef Ramsay and Barbara Rothchild to be tasted. They like both dishes and decide that both of them are the winners. For their reward they get to go to a restaurant called Shutters on the beach, while the losers will have to pick up trash along the road. When the losers get in their outfits they look like convicts and Tennille thought that what they were doing was wrong, which annoyed Dave.
Service:
Tonight both Ariel and Kevin’s dishes are placed on the menu. Service gets started and right out of the gates there are communication issues between Tennille and Suzanne. Tennille didn’t tell Suzanne when to fire the scallops. Unfortunately when she finally does she sears them a little too much.
Things aren’t much better on Tennille’s side either. Her first attempts at a risotto are overcooked. Finally after doing it over and over again Chef realizes that the rice is grainy and way overcooked. Kevin then tells Chef that he made the rice and that he screwed up, but Chef took no mercy. He yelled at Kevin for awhile and looked really pissed since he expects a lot from him.
The risottos eventually are served up to Chef Ramsay’s approval and all the appetizers are served.
Moving on to entrees Ariel sends up a raw piece of chicken. Right after Suzanne goes up to the pass with raw halibut. Eventually Ariel gets her chicken right, but when serving a lamb she screws up one of the pieces.
Chef then takes her out of the kitchen and asks if she would serve her lamb at Araxi and she said “no” thankfully. Chef Ramsay then calls them all up to the pass and tells them to get it together. They eventually complete service, but by the end Chef looks frustrated.
Elimination:
After service Chef Ramsay.....
