ROCK STAR: INXS, from "Survivor" executive producer Mark Burnett, combines the world of rock music with relationship-style unscripted drama, performance competition and a weekly contestant elimination. The last singer standing will become the lead singer of the internationally renowned band INXS and embark on a worldwide concert tour with the band and be part of the group's new album.
The 15 performers will be housed together in a Hollywood Hills home. Each week will feature taped reality segments focusing on the performers' relationships and activities (Monday episodes), along with a performance competition (Tuesday) and weekly results (Wednesday).
The series is produced by Mark Burnett Productions. Mark Burnett, David Goffin, ("American Idol") Lisa Hennessy ("Eco-Challenge") and INXS managers David Edwards and Michael Murchison are executive producers. Conrad Riggs is co-executive producer.
Intial CBS Press Release:
CBS and Mark Burnett will launch a new reality series that promises to find the next great rock star.
Set for the summer of 2005, the winning contestant will become the lead singer of the internationally renowned band INXS.
Each week, the show will feature a LIVE performance competition that will eliminate one contestant, as determined by a combination of viewer participation, judges and INXS band members. The last contestant standing joins INXS on a worldwide concert tour and in production of a new album.
The series, which will be broadcast for two hours a week, will also focus on the relationships and interaction between the contestants as they live together in a Hollywood Hills home.
CBS is home to the annual GRAMMY AWARDS broadcast. Its parent company, Viacom, offers the opportunity for synergies as it operates the MTV and VH1 cable channels as well as the Infinity radio group.
CBS and Burnett joined together to launch SURVIVOR as a cultural phenomenon in the summer of 2000, which continues to be a TOP-10 hit.
The new show will be produced by Mark Burnett Productions. Mark Burnett, David Goffin (“American Idol”), and INXS managers David Edwards and Michael Murchison are executive producers. Conrad Riggs is co-executive producer.
INXS was formed in the late ‘70s in Australia and has sold more than 30 million albums. The band’s lead singer, Michael Hutchence, died in 1997.
