Platinum Hit: The Worst Elimination Of The Season - Here's The Rankings
Commentary By RTVC Senior Staff Writer Joseph Braverman

I think the emotion would have been greater with Brian and Scotty both singing their songs, since it was essentially their story to tell.

I understand their thought process in wanting to make the song more universal, but I think the two came from such a real place – Scotty with his coming out journey, and Brian with coping through the pain of losing his mother at an early age – that the songs would have been a lot more meaningful if they had sung it with their own emotional inflections.

The reason why I preferred Brian and Jes’ song was because it had a more emotional edge to it.

Yes, I agree that there was not a trace of the hard-edge angst found in Pink tracks, but there was an anthemic quality to the song that I felt highlighted the emotion of finding strength amidst hardship.

I thought it was odd that Jewel made the comment that the song sounded like Hannah Montana, but one of Miley Cyrus’ biggest songs to date is “The Climb,” which, lyrically, is simplistically effective in its empowerment message, so I don’t think the Miley Cyrus comparisons hindered the song much.

Jes really bugged me this episode, and I know she is probably a sweet and cool soul in real life, but I could not stand the passive-aggressiveness displayed this week.

And when she threw Brian under the bus for not listening to her ideas and instead focusing too much on the track, I was wondering if the strategic player in her was waiting for that golden opportunity to undermine Brian in front of the judging panel so he would go home.

If so, well played Jes, but I don’t think those tactics will win you any fans or make you be a true success, since at the end of the day your music and your talent has to speak for itself. In conclusion – Brian was robbed!

Here are my rankings for the remaining four songwriters:
