Recap and Commentary by RTVC Staff Writer Stephanie

Everything happens
for a reason.
Every season of Project Runway features an "unconventional materials" challenge which always has the designers scrambling to make something out of nothing.
This season, the challenge kicked off early in only the second episode, when Tim Gunn met the crew at Dylan's Candy Bar in NYC.
You know what that means, right? Time to bust out the Twizzlers, because we've got ourselves a candy challenge!
Let's rewind a bit first. We find out before the challenge that Ven is a little annoyed that he didn't take the first challenge and immunity with his rose bustier.
Got thoughts? Post them at the end.
While I can agree that Ven's design was amazing, Christopher seriously pulled out all the stops on his gown and deserved the win.
Back at the candy shop, Raul is completely unimpressed by the idea of a candy challenge when Tim Gunn announces that they'll have $250 (with 50 percent off from the owner, Dylan Lauren – yes, she's the candy aficionado and daughter of Ralph Lauren) and 30 minutes to load up on any material they can find in the store.
As they take off running, it's clear to see who the candy purists are and which designers are going to fudge a bit by grabbing fabric goods – I'm looking at you, tank top buying Andrea!
Can I also point out that while licorice was a hot commodity; Kooan was reaching in and grabbing fistfuls of the stuff with his hands? Dude, use the tongs!
Also, at one point during the shopping, Dmitry announces that he's not into kids or candy. What's next? Puppies?
Once all the designers had checked out, it was back to Parsons to start on designs and we start to see sketches take place.
Tim shows up to kick off the challenge and announces that since Christopher has immunity, he might as well just take a nap; yeah, right.
Commence hair flouncing and eye-rolling from his arch nemesis, Gunnar.
Christopher and Gunnar have an intense fabric ripping war where they mangle muslin while staring at each other. Fierce.
Elena loves her pina colada twists and their linear shape – despite the fact they're twisty.
She plans to do a strong shoulder warrior dress.
Alicia, the dred-sporting hippy is planning on doing overalls. Meanwhile, the '90s called; it wants its fashion statement back.
