Project Runway: Well, At Least Her Butt Wasn’t Showing - Ranking The Remaining 13
Rankings by RTVC Staff Writer Donna Emery

This week on Project Runway, the designers worked in teams, and some of them had as much compatibility as Felix and Oscar.
This, of course, made for an interesting show.
When the designers ogled the “classics” at the museum, it was fun to watch their reactions. Seth Aaron seemed especially enthralled; Anthony was, as always, amused by whatever caught his fancy. Tim told the designers to “be inspired” by the iconic looks at the museum, and to create their own “signature look”.
With a partner.
So… looking at someone else’s signature looks was supposed to help them create one of their own? I don’t get it. Seeing these fashion classics up close must certainly have been educational for the designers, but how would that help anyone to conjure up a signature look? But the designers were suitably impressed and they conferred with their new partners, and rushed off to the Mood Store to grab their fabric and supplies.
So, explain to me again how working with someone you barely know – who is also going to be judged by your jointly finished project – will help you create your own “signature” look? And, even if it did, how is this any different than the first week’s assignment: to show the judges who they were, as designers.
Except for the amount of money they got to spend, I don’t see much of a difference in those two projects.
But the designers were off, and many of them collaborated fairly well. We didn’t see much of several of the duos (to the extent that, a few days after seeing the episode, I can’t remember who most of them were paired with). Since this is TV, we mostly saw the duos who either didn’t get along very well (Ping and Jesse; Seth Aaron and Anthony) and those who were destined to win, despite themselves (Mila and Jonathan; Jay and Maya).
When you think about it; in retrospect, the focus of the cameras was, primarily on the winners and the losers. So, should we be looking to see who the cameras target, next week?
Ping and Jesse should never have worked together. I don’t know who would have been a better choice for Ping, this week. So scattered she could barely gather her own ideas; Ping seemed overwhelmed by the assignment to begin with. Jesse came to their pairing with a defeatist attitude (“Ugh, I really don’t want to work with Ping!) and let their differences become magnified to the point of making their dysfunction into chaos. I can certainly see why working with her would have been a challenge for even the most patient of partners (Jonathan? Ben? Anna?) but Jesse’s tangible frustration and visible contempt for Ping might have rattled even the most secure of partners (Mila? Seth Aaron? Anthony?).
The first week, Ping’s idea of beautiful drapery scored her a place in the top 3. Last week, she made a butt-less dress. This week, her “signature” look resulted in a terrible toga and a barely-constructed “dress for less”. She was already on the plank from last week’s disaster (along with Jesus), but this week sealed the deal.
So, Jesse, just because you were.....
