Project Runway All Stars: Melted Gelato - Here's The Rankings Rankings and Commentary by RTVC Staff Writer Michael Pascua
January 27, 2012
This week on Project Runway, the inspiration came from a small gelato cart.
The biggest issue I had with this week wasn't the fact that the contestants only had six hours to create dresses, it was the fact that the judges weren't given the original color swatches that the contestants were given.
Got thoughts? Post them at the end.
I didn't find it fair that the judges would be upset that someone like Michael had a color that to them didn't scream grapefruit.
The fact that made it worse was that it seemed like Angela agreed when she saw the swatch of color or at least the slowly melting gelato.
The flaw with making such a quick challenge was that all the contestants fell back onto things that they knew.
It's similar to shows like Top Chef where they would just pull from a recipe they've cooked before or knew wouldn't take long to cook.
You could probably go and look at prior episodes or the contestant’s seasons and find that they all did something similar, but they just fit it to the color they needed to.
Even someone like Mondo flirted with the idea of a full covering dress that only showed the back.
April was eliminated and I was a bit disappointed.
She did provide a dress that wasn't black. The problem was that April made yet another dress inspired by something that Tim Burton touched.
She's 22 and still growing, so I hope that while she keeps the gothic shapes, she can learn that colors are cool. Even ones that may look a bit to Halloween.
