The Real Housewives of New Jersey: Spoiled Sports
Recap and Commentary by RTVC Staff Writer Jackie Morrison
May 30, 2012

Little Gia got involved in her mother and uncle’s sibling spat in between pleading for a bra.

Although she is only 10 years old the competitive nature and need for attention is clearly in Gia’s blood.

While Juicy Joe and Joe Gorga workout in competition for sexy (not) the wives are preparing to do battle. It just never ends in a kind of mafia war way with the two families.

Lauren Manzo laments to her dad about her weight. Albert lost weight a while back when he got a lap band but Lauren is too young to consider it.

While golfing Albert tells Lauren that she likes to eat too much. It’s too simple an answer. Once again it is in the genes. Some people are born with a body type that likes to gain weight easily.

Everything comes to a head when Jacqueline hosts a field day event. Juicy Joe takes the other three girls down the shore while Gia and Teresa attend. Gia tried to talk to Joe Gorga but things get bad when Gia thinks her uncle is cheating in the games.

Before long Gia storms off just like Teresa and sulks in the corner. Teresa and Joe Gorga are no better as they try to avoid a battle. Lauren tells her mom to just invite family next time.

Jacqueline tries to calm Gia down but it only makes her more hysterical. Caroline just shakes her head at Teresa’s parenting when she fails to get a handle on Gia.

The fact is, Gia is willful, and Teresa is the one who taught her that being a drama queen was ok.

One only wonders how Teresa’s parents are reacting to their children and grandchildren’s behavior. In traditional Italian-Catholic families the kind of antics that are being displayed would be grounds for getting disowned. Joe has already denied his own sister on national television.

Jacqueline may be happy with Lauren but not Teresa when she discovers that her friend lied to her about Joe Gorga not apologizing.

Speaking of mothers and daughters, Teresa takes Lauren out shopping and offers support in her ongoing concern about her weight.

With Ashley in Las Vegas Jacqueline is enjoying being away from the fighting. Somehow Ashley is better off without her mother’s parenting since she doesn’t want to change. Jacqueline has done her best but having a child like Lauren or Victoria comes down to luck.

Heck, my mom tried everything too and only when I left home at 16 did I actually get it. My parents had to cut me off financially and force me to fend for myself but it worked.

Maybe the same should be done to Ashley. I can’t believe how she talks to her parents and step-parents yet gets away with it.

Got thoughts? Post them at the end.

Melissa stayed out of the drama while Kathy tried to mediate as usual. Melissa and her Daisy Duke shorts were not a hit with Teresa whose equally short shorts were just as teeny boppy.

Kathy’s husband Rich also tried to be peacemaker with Joe Gorga as he tried to deal with the increasing rift with Teresa.
