RuPaul's Drag Race: Queens In Space
Recap and Commentary by RTVC Senior Staff Writer Jacob D.
February 3, 2011

Phoenix doesn't always
rise again.
Previously on RuPaul's Drag Race:
After two wildly successful seasons of dragtastic drama and fashion, LOGO premiered a third season of RuPaul's Drag Race. 12 new queens were selected, all of them hoping to be "America's Next Drag Superstar."

When they arrived, RuPaul told them their challenges for the week would be holiday themed. As an added twist, RuPaul decided to give a second chance to season two contestant and its first eliminee Shangela LaQuifa Wadley, bringing her back to compete in season three.

For the mini-challenge, the girls posed for a sexy Wintery picture while jumping on a trampoline and RuPaul and Mike Ruiz, photographer for the challenge, felt Raja did the best. For their main challenge, the girls were tasked with making holiday drag couture out of thrift store findings. On the runway, Manila Luzon, Mimi Imfurst, and Raja were named the top three overall and Raja won again.

On the other hand, Carmen Carrera, Shangela, and Venus D-Lite were the bottom three and in a repeat of last year, Shangela was in the bottom two after the first challenge. Joining her in a lip sync battle to guest judge Vanessa Williams', "The Right Stuff," was Venus D-Lite and unlike last year, Shangela survived; Venus D-Lite would be the first queen to get the axe.

12 queens remain and this week, they go into space! Who will make a safe return and who will get stranded? Let's find out.

After the most recent elimination, the girls head to the workroom and Delta Work is sad that her friend Venus was sent home. If you didn't see the casting special, Delta Work and Venus D-Lite were both selected for the cast at RDR's first ever open call. I don't know if they knew each other before that, but they certainly knew each other after that. Shangela is glad she survived the first challenge this year, but feels battered and bruised. Manila tries to comfort her, but she just wants to be left alone.

What 'Tyra Mail' is to "America's Next Top Model," another show recapped by your's truly, 'She Mail' is to RuPaul's Drag Race. Besides that delicious pun, RuPaul gives the queens cryptic, space-themed soundbites and then joins them in the workroom. If you've never seen RuPaul out of drag, he usually only wears it on this show at judging panels, so get your fill folks!

Anyway, RuPaul tells the girls to pair up for an E.S.P. challenge, one in which one girl from each pair must guess what the other is wearing without seeing them. The pair with the most correct guesses wins this mini challenge. Raja and Delta are first, with Delta making the guesses, and after a joke from Raja about how Delta knows a lot about her including how many cab drivers she's slept with, we see Delta get the color of Raja's wig wrong. All in all, this pair only gets one correct guess that we see.

Phoenix and Mariah are next.....
