RuPaul's Drag Race: "Gentlemen, Start Your Engines! And May The Best Woman Win!"
Recap and Commentary by RTVC Senior Staff Writer Jacob D.
February 2, 2010
Hello and welcome to episode one of season two of RuPaul's Drag Race, the hit drag-oriented reality show on the LOGO network.

The previous season saw nine queens gather to battle it out in the hopes of becoming the next drag superstar.

In the end, it was an international affair as African born Bebe Zahara Benet captured the crown, with Puerto Rican sweetheart Nina Flowers being named runner-up.

Now, we are here at the beginning of season two where 12 new drag hopefuls will compete to follow in Bebe's footsteps.

In the words of RuPaul, "Gentlemen, start your engines! And may the best woman win!"

At the workroom, Nicole Paige Brooks of Atlanta, GA is the first to arrive and she tells us she's a Southern Belle. The next to arrive is Shangela Laquifa Wadley, the, "Debutantess of the Deep South." Hmmm, two minutes in and already we have two Southern girls. As a southern chick myself, representing Texas, I love it! Still there is a major contrast between the two in the area of drag experience. Nicole has been strutting her stuff for 15 years while Shangela has only been working the drag for about five months. Will the lack of experience hurt Shangela? Well, if baby queen Rebecca Glasscock could make it to third place in season one, I guess it's not an automatic death knell. Although, Rebecca did stumble along a few times.

In walks Raven and she is gorgeous! The man under that makeup is just as lovely to look at. Raven says she enjoys being the mysterious dark ice queen and feels she has a look that might intimidate some people. At this early point, Raven reminds me a bit of Shannel from last season in that both have sharp looks and seem quite confident, almost cocky. Shannel had her confidence shaken when she was torn apart by the judges last season. Can Raven hold up a little better?

The fourth queen to arrive is the adorable Jujubee, a fabulous Asian queen. Queen number five is Sahara Davenport and once Shangela turns around and gets a look, the eardrums explode! Shangela and Sahara scream, in a joyous fit rivaling anything I've recapped on Top Model, run to each other, and embrace since they are friends from way back, having met in college.

The next queen to arrive is Morgan McMichaels and this time, it's Raven's turn to run and hug. Though the two don't quite freak out to the same degree as Shangela and Sahara, but they are happy to see each other because they too had been friends prior to being on the show. Now, we've got to have at least one big girl on this show and that will be Mystique Summers Madison. She's here from Texas amd she came to show the skinny bitches how it's done!

The next queen to show up is.....
