It’s the finale of The Sing-Off and the votes have been cast by America. Now it’s time to watch the final three groups give us their last great performance before the winner is announced. The winner will win $100,000 and a recording contract with Sony Entertainment.
The show starts off with The Beelzebubs, Nota and Voices of Lee doing a group performance covering U2’s “Still Haven’t Found What I am Looking For.” Each group has one lead vocalist and their respective groups behind them doing the music and background sounds.
Getting into the individual performances we start with Voices of Lee singing “Stand by Me” by Ben E. King. Very different interpretations by the group letting their lead girl singer take the lead. I just think with all the talent they have in the men, a guy should have taken the lead. She is great, but I just think some part of this song was lost in the translation. Not the normal feel-good emotion you usually get from this song.
Let’s see how the judges fare on this unusual take of a classic. Ben doesn’t really talk much about this performance but he said that their growth through the completion was completely evident and they deserved their place here tonight. Shawn thought they were powerful and holding it down on the vocal tip. They have so many levels that they truly show their depth on stage. Nicole tells them they are her choir of angels.
The Beelzebubs come on strong covering The Black-eyed Peas “Where is the Love?” Nicole is the first up and gives lots of accolades and love, peace and kisses to all the ‘bubs. As usual. Ben’s theory is that people pray that the ‘bubs are what actual college boys are like. He says they are the leaders in A cappella University. Shawn thinks this group not only sings but entertains as well. He thinks they sound amazing and after watching them, a cappella is going to be all the rage.
And here comes Nota with Bill Wither’s “Lean on Me.” Ut oh. They are off key. The notes aren’t being met and the backup is quite off. This was my favorite group going in, they might be happy that the winner has already been found. Shawn tells them they got a flavor that no one else brings to this show. Mixing the melody with the Latin flavor is just amazing. Nicole tells them that they are proof of what the voice, as an instrument, can be. She loves them. As usual. Ben tells them that they are a band and their groove is incredible.
Voices of Lee get to meet and sing with pop icon Natasha Bedingfield. She compliments them on their rendition of “Unwritten.” Now she helps them through “Pockets Full of Sunshine” and they are so excited and honored to be singing with her on stage. So obviously the star will sing and the group will perform backup.
The Beelzebubs get the chance to sing with one of the judges, Nicole Sherzinger. They will perform “You Don’t Own Me” by Lesley Gore. This is a shame I would rather have seen the ‘bubs come out and sing me another song by themselves.
Lastly, Nota gets to sing with Smokey Robinson. They will take on “The Tracks of my Tears.” How sweet and honorable it was for the men to dance as the Miracles would have as backup for Smokey, back in the day.
