So You Think You Can Dance: The Top 14 Results Show
Recap by Jacob D
July 5, 2008
This week on So You Think You Can Dance, our seven remaining couples each performed twice, giving the viewers double the chances to make up their minds and vote. Now those seven couples will learn who will appear in the bottom three and who will ultimately be the fourth girl and fourth guy eliminated.
The proceedings begin, as they usually do, with a group number, this time a Broadway routine choreographed by Tyce DiOrio. In a funny little moment, Cat says Tyce is a good guy, but then presents us with some clips of his bitchier moments judging the pre-season auditions. Is it wrong that I love Tyce? Well, I do like the guy.
Next is what we really tuned in for and that's the week's results. The first couples to join Cat on the stage are the two couples leading the pack this season, Twitchington and Katee & Joshua. To the surprise of no one, they are both safe. Next on stage are Kourtni L. & Matt, Courtney G. & Gev, and Chelsie & Mark. Kourtni L. & Matt are the first couple to fall into the bottom group, also to the surprise of no one.
Now, I'm assuming that one of the remaining two couples is in the bottom three and the other is safe. Who will it be? Will Courtney G. & Gev be able to continue flying under the radar? Will the, "Jazz Curse," claim Chelsie & Mark as its latest victims? Bucking the trend are Chelsie & Mark, who are safe, meaning Courtney G. & Gev will be performing solos as part of the bottom three for the first time. Finally, we come to Comfort & Thayne and Jessica & Will. I wouldn't be surprised if either of these couples fell into the bottom three, but there can be only one. That couple is Comfort & Thayne, the third time for both though the first time for them as a couple.
With that out of the way and before we get to the solos, it is time for this week's guest dancer. Rather than a celebrity already out there in the field of dance, SYTYCD is bringing back one of its most famous auditioners from this season. You probably already know who I'm talking about, even if you haven't caught any previews or missed the end of last night's performance show when Cat told us who it'd be. Yes, that person is Robert Muraine, the guy who seemed to defy the laws of physics with one of the most brilliant, innovative solos the show has ever seen.
But enough about that. I personally have quite a few issues with Robert for a different reason. Yes, like everyone else, I was completely blown away by his initial audition. Heck, I looked him up on MySpace right after that audition aired. Yes, I also believed he was an immediate favorite and a front runner in the chance that he made it through to the Top 20. Obviously though, he didn't, but not because he went through the paces and didn't measure up, but because he flat out quit and left. He didn't even give the Vegas rounds a try, leaving even before the first round of choreography commenced. I have been fuming over the whole thing for weeks now and I was about ready to explode at the sight of him on this results show. However, I wasn't as pissed at him as I thought I'd be. So maybe I don't hate the guy as much as I thought I did, but I still can't just look past what he did and how he left show. As such, I would like to get some feelings off my chest and explain why, though I don't think Robert is a complete egotistical jerk or a screw-up, he is a colossal idiot for quitting the show. If you're a fan of Robert's and don't want to hear what I have to say or you just want me to get on with the show, keep scrolling. For everyone else, here's my list:
-He was praised up and down, showing that a lot of people had faith in him and wanted to see him perform, but threw it away by quitting.
-He was given every opportunity to stay, even being allowed to dance a solo at the beginning of Hollywood week, but threw it all away.
-People such as Yesenia Gomez and Chad Agnor were fighting through injuries to stay on the show, but a perfectly healthy Robert throws it away. True, Chad wasn't that good, but at least he tried.
-He quit during the first choreography round in Vegas. The first choreography round focused on hip-hop, which should've been easy for him. He also spent most of the time in the background making faces and standing around rather than actually trying to do the choreography.
-He claimed he was not comfortable with choreography and was out of his comfort zone. There have been tons of dancers on every season who have been thrown out of their comfort zone, yet persevered and made it. Plus, choreography is a HUGE part of the show. Had he not seen any of the past seasons?
-He claimed he didn't want to bring.....
