Survivor Nicaragua is the forum for “Age and wisdom often defeat youth and strength”.
In fact, let’s just ramp up the quote a bit … Age and treachery will beat youth and skill every time.
And I’m telling you right now, I’m rootin’ for the old people. Hell, I am one of them and this is all about solidarity.
This is going to be like one of those football things where the fans are the fans regardless whether their team has a chance in hell for the playoffs and regardless of who their team is playing.
You know the fans; they hang banners from their front porch and paint slogans on their car windows. Perhaps you are one?
So brace yourself, this old broad is rooting for the AARP squad and intends to be loud.
The cast is interesting. There are no 30-somethings to bridge the chasm between the buff and brash and the wrinkled and wise.
My apologies to Tyrone. There is nothing wrinkled about that guy.
We shall hope that he is more like Tom Westman, whom he admires, than accident prone James.
As I often do, I’m going to run down the cast by what they say is their occupation. Please note the emphasis.
In the youth league, four are students. Not unexpected in a group of people in their twenties. We have one teacher, one pit crew guy, two business owners and two entrepreneurs.
I rather admire those who say they are students. They are not fearful of saying that they are still learning and growing.
The teacher is probably being truthful also, although we all remember Coach Wade who could spin a resume into a ten-pound novel.
The designation of pit crew guy is probably accurate but not likely a long term career path.
Business owners? One guy does pest control. He says he’s the owner so that means that he either has a franchise or has a van and a sprayer. Good for him. America was built on the shoulders of people like that.
The other is a beauty pageant girl who owns a paddleboard company? What on God’s green earth does that mean? She looks good in a bikini and knows how to use an airbrush on boards? You make it up. She probably did.
Then we get to club promoter and real estate broker. Make up anything you want to for these guys, but do check out the video for the real estate mogul. He has an ego the size of a small planet and is clearly a man in search of his own reality show.
I’ll make a side note here. Our Teacher.....
