Survivor Gabon: An Ambush Shakes Up The Rankings
Rankings by Logan Huffman
As of November 8, 2008
This week on ‘Survivor Gabon’, both tribes were prepared for a merge, but were shocked when Jeff had them draw rocks, which reshuffled their tribes once again. And Matty informed Sugar that Ace wasn’t going to turn on her in the near future, causing Sugar to feel like she made a mistake.

Marcus tried to convince Susie to stay on his and Bob’s side, so they could have the numbers at the new Kota. And on the new Fang, Randy, Corinne, and Charlie vowed to stick together. Charlie, Corinne, and Randy worried for Marcus’ safety, so they decided to throw the Immunity Challenge to ensure that Marcus remained in the game.

At the Immunity Challenge, each castaway had to hold up poles in an endurance test, and the last person standing would win for their tribe. Despite their efforts to throw the challenge, Matty hung in there and won the challenge for Fang, sending Kota to Tribal Council.

Back at Kota, Marcus continued to convince Susie to vote off Ken and stick with the original Kota members. She worried she would be booted at six, but Marcus promised her the final three.

Crystal also worked to convince Susie to turn on Marcus, but Susie was reluctant after her final three promise. Crystal tried to tell her that with Corinne and Randy’s dislike for her, there was no way Marcus could promise her that.

At Tribal Council, Crystal and Ken’s persuasion skills came through once again, and Susie sided with them to blindside Marcus, as he became the next person booted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.

Crystal Cox (29)
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 8
Hometown: Durham, North Carolina
Occupation: Former Olympic Athlete

Crystal jumps up to number one this week. Every week, Crystal plays the game better than the week before. She single-handedly convinced Susie to vote with her and Ken, managing to eliminate her strongest threat in the game in the process. If Crystal can keep this game play up, she may be paving herself a path to the finals.

Ken Hoang (22)
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 7
Hometown: Westminster, California
Occupation: Professional Gamer

Ken leaps five positions up the scoreboard to second place. Although he almost got voted off, his ally came through for him, and his position in the game got much more powerful. If he and Crystal can keep this up, they should have a nice run in the game.

Susie Smith (47)
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 9
Hometown: Charles City, Iowa
Occupation: Hairdresser

Susie jumps six positions up to number three this week. Although she has made some dumb moves, she made one of the smartest moves of the game this week. Blindsiding Marcus was brilliant, and increases Susie’s chances of going far in the game tenfold. Although she still isn’t the most popular person in the game, she seems to be in with Ken and Crystal right now, and should be safe for a while.

Corinne Kaplan (29)
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 2
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Occupation: Pharmaceutical Sales

Corinne ranks in fourth place this week. Corinne ranks higher than the others in her alliance simply because she seems to be playing the game better than them. Corinne should be safe for now.

Charlie Herschel (29)
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 3
Hometown: New York, New York
Occupation: Lawyer

Charlie ranks in the fifth position this week. Charlie is continuing to fly under the radar, which has worked well for him thus far. He seems to be in a safe position for the time being.

Randy Bailey (49)
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 5
Hometown: Eagle Rock, Missouri
Occupation: Wedding Videographer

Randy seems to be in tight with the Kota members now. However, if they lose the numbers, Randy is pretty unpopular, which could spell trouble for him. But for now, he is with the numbers on the Fang tribe, which should equal his safety at the moment.

Jessica "Sugar" Kiper (29)
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: 4
Hometown: Brooklyn, New York
Occupation: Pin-Up Model

Sugar falls three positions down the scoreboard this week. Although she still does have the Idol, almost everyone knows that, which weakens her advantage. She could easily be blindsided next, but Sugar is smart, and I think she could be able to scheme her way through some more of the game.

Robert "Bob" Crowley (58)
Current Ranking: 8         Previous Ranking: 6
Hometown: Portland, Maine
Occupation: Physics Teacher

Bob falls to last place for the Kota tribe this week. Bob just hasn’t played the game very well. He was invited into the Kota alliance, and has done nothing in terms of game play since then. If Bob doesn’t actually try to infiltrate the alliance of the other Kota members, he is a sitting duck.

Matty Whitmore (29)
Current Ranking: 9         Previous Ranking: 10
Hometown: Pacific Palisades, California
Occupation: Personal Trainer

Matty remains in last place this week. He would have been voted out if he hadn’t won the challenge for Fang. Corinne, Randy, and Charlie already realize how much of a threat Matty is, and the next chance they get, he will be finished.

Marcus Lehman (28)
Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
Occupation: Doctor

9th Boot - 1st Jury Member

I am completely shocked that Marcus didn’t make it to the finals. He was arguably the strongest player in the game. This newest tribal switch was his downfall. If he had been on Fang, this wouldn’t have happened. Unfortunately, Susie was feeling on the outs, and she was presented with the chance to take out the strongest player in the game. Like any person who is even somewhat smart, she took the opportunity and jumped ship. Marcus became the ninth person to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’, but he will return as the first member of the jury.

Dan Kay (32)
Hometown: Boston, Massachusetts
Occupation: Lawyer

8th Boot

Dan ranks in last place for the Kota tribe this week. His extra consumption of food really seems to be a touchy issue with his tribe, and I think it has enlarged the target he already had on his back. He hasn’t really been able to make any solid allies in his new tribe, and I think he will most likely be the person Kota votes off next.

Ace Gordon (27)
Hometown: Naples, Florida
Occupation: Jewelry Sales

7th Boot

Ace moves up three positions this week. Although he isn’t exactly the most popular person in the game, he is a physical asset, and he seems to be able to make pacts when he needs to. If he holds tight to his alliance with Matty, he could have a good run in the game, since I think he will dominate in the individual Immunity Challenges if he makes it to the merge.

Kelly Czarnecki (22)
Hometown: Buffalo Grove, Illinois
Occupation: Retail Sales

6th Boot

I’m actually surprised that Kelly even made it this far. She didn’t play the social aspect of the game very well, and immediately isolated herself from Kota. Her only saving grace was the tribal switch, and if she had committed to that alliance, she could have taken that far into the game. However, I don’t think Kelly really knew how to play the game, and her outspoken nature finally cost her, as she became the sixth castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.

Danny "GC" Brown (26)
Hometown: Portland, Oregon
Occupation: Maintenance Man

5th Boot

I am so glad to see GC gone. His attitude of wanting to quit reminded me of Osten from ‘Survivor Pearl Islands’. I don’t understand why people sign up for the show, and then want to quit after they are out there competing. There has been sixteen seasons before this one, so you would think people would realize by now that they will be starving out in the elements, and it won’t be easy. Fang really tried to make GC successful, but he undermined all of their attempts. Maybe if he had stuck with being the leader, things would have worked out differently, but I doubt it, because he is just too weak and whiny. GC became the fifth castaway voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’ after a unanimous vote.

Jacque Berg (25)
Hometown: Santa Barbara, California

4th Boot

Jacquie was such a strong player, and I don’t think anyone could have seen this coming. I was really looking forward to seeing her strategic side come out later in the game, but the tribal switch completely screwed her over. The rest of her alliance stayed on Kota, and all of her allies were gone. The others had already managed to get Kelly on their side, and Ace was the strongest physical asset, leaving Jacquie as the only target. Jacquie became the fourth castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.

Paloma Soto-Castillo (24)
Hometown: Downey, California

3rd Boot

This is not a shock. I ranked Paloma bottom for the Kota tribe last week, and when they lost, she went home, exactly like I expected. While there are weaker women competing on this season, they were all on the other tribe. Paloma was the weakest on her tribe, and she didn’t really try to do a lot of scheming to change her fate. Paloma did show a lot of spunk at Tribal Council, and I think she would have been interesting to watch progress in the game. Nevertheless, Paloma became the third castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.

Gillian Larson (61)
Hometown: Temecula, California
Occupation: Retired Nurse

2nd Boot
I really was hoping that Gillian could pull out a decent run like Rudy and Scout did in the past, but with older contestants, they either go early or make it far. In Gillian’s case, it was the former. Also, although she was only trying to help, she spoke up way too often, putting a target on herself, which was already big enough due to her lack of physicality alone. In the end, even Gillian’s positive attitude couldn’t save her, as she became the second castaway voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.

Michelle Chase (24)
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Occupation: Music Producer

1st Boot
I thought that Michelle had a chance to be a dark horse, but her attitude squashed that chance rather quickly. Michelle immediately isolated herself from all but one of her tribe mates, which is never a good strategy. Despite her performing better in the challenges, the tribe chose Gillian’s positive spirit over her constant negativity, as Michelle became the first player voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
