Survivor Gabon: Predicting The Winner
Rankings by Logan Huffman
As of December 13, 2008
This week on ‘Survivor Gabon’, some of the others felt betrayed by Kenny’s vote for Matty, setting up a good versus evil scenario against the remaining six. Trying to regain Kenny’s trust, Bob offered to give him Immunity if he won it at the next Tribal Council.

Bob won the Reward Challenge, sending him on a gorilla adventure. He chose to take Crystal and Kenny with him, and they solidified their alliance, deciding to vote Matty at the next Tribal Council. Kenny also offered to take Bob’s Immunity at a different vote, but it had to be whenever he asked for it.

After Susie was sent to Exile Island, Matty and Sugar were left alone back at camp, but Sugar wasn’t really open to siding with Matty, leading Matty to assume that his time in Gabon would be ending shortly.

Bob won the Immunity Challenge, and back at camp, after seeing Bob’s challenge streak, Kenny devised a plan with Crystal to take Bob’s Immunity, and then blindside Bob at Tribal Council. Kenny informed Sugar of the plan, but seeing how he and Crystal were treating Matty, Sugar wanted to turn the tables on Crystal.

Sugar went to Bob and informed him that Kenny planned to blindside him after he relinquished his Immunity necklace. She told Bob that they wanted to vote off Crystal.

At Tribal Council, Bob listened to Sugar’s advice and kept his Immunity, crushing Kenny’s plan, and forcing Kenny to use his back-up plan of ousting Matty. Before the votes were revealed, Sugar destroyed Kenny’s back-up plan, giving Matty her hidden Idol in front of all of the other castaways, as Crystal was voted off 4-2 by the others.

Matty Whitmore (29)
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 3
Hometown: Pacific Palisades, California
Occupation: Personal Trainer

Matty takes the top spot headed into the finale. While I don’t think Matty has been the best player, I do think he will make it to the finals, and the fact of the matter is, this seems like a somewhat bitter jury, and Matty has alienated them less than many of the other remaining castaways. I think this will lead to Matty winning ‘Survivor Gabon’.

Jessica "Sugar" Kiper (29)
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 1
Hometown: Brooklyn, New York
Occupation: Pin-Up Model

Sugar drops to number two going into the finale. I think Sugar has played the game the best out of all of the players. Unfortunately, most of the jury doesn’t like Sugar. I don’t think Corinne, Marcus, Randy, or Charlie will vote for her, and that’s enough votes for her to lose. I really hope Sugar can pull out a victory, but I think she’ll be taking second place instead.

Susie Smith (47)
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 2
Hometown: Charles City, Iowa
Occupation: Hairdresser

Susie falls to third going into the final episode of the season. Susie has mainly flown under the radar this season, and her major move she made of voting off Marcus was actually the biggest power play of the season. However, if she does reach the jury, I don’t think they will vote for her, as they don’t like her that much, either. I think Susie will be taking a third place finish.

Robert "Bob" Crowley (58)
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 6
Hometown: Portland, Maine
Occupation: Physics Teacher

Bob ranks in fourth place headed into the finale. Bob is in a better position now than he was, as the power has now shifted. However, unless he continues to win all of the challenges, I don’t think he will make it to the finals. Bob would sweep the jury, and the others know that. They won’t let him get to that point.

Ken Hoang (22)
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 5
Hometown: Westminster, California
Occupation: Professional Gamer

Ken takes the bottom position heading into the final episode. Kenny had this entire game in his hands, and he blew it. If he had just voted for Corinne (or taken out Matty), he wouldn’t be in this position right now. Now he is the outsider, and he will have to fight his way to the finale. If he does somehow reach the jury, I think he is probably too hated to win anyway.

Crystal Cox (29)
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 3
Hometown: Durham, North Carolina
Occupation: Former Olympic Athlete

13th Boot - 5th Jury Member

Crystal made her biggest mistake of the game last week. If she had voted for Matty, she probably wouldn’t be in this position right now. Kenny’s dumb plan helped to ultimately screw her over, but the attitude she took with nearly everyone didn’t help matters, either. Sugar was sick of Crystal, and she directed the votes that way, as Crystal became the thirteenth castaway booted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’ in a 4-2 vote, but she will be joining the jury to help crown the winner of ‘Survivor Gabon’.

Corinne Kaplan (29)

Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Occupation: Pharmaceutical Sales

12th Boot - 4th Jury Member

As I expected, Corinne got the boot. Although most of the credit has to be given to Bob, their plan nearly worked, and it was a good plan. However, it didn’t help that Bob won Immunity and Corinne had made so many enemies. Unfortunately, close doesn’t count on ‘Survivor’, causing Corinne to be the twelfth castaway to be ousted from ‘Survivor Gabon’ in a 4-3 vote, but she will return with the jury to help decide the winner.

Randy Bailey (49)
Hometown: Eagle Rock, Missouri
Occupation: Wedding Videographer

11th Boot - 3rd Jury Member

Randy brought this all on himself. He had made so many enemies, even if he had made it to the finals, there is no way he would have won. Matty tried to spare him for another vote, but Randy was too busy with the shovel digging his own grave to lay low and take advantage of the opportunity. The fiasco he caused with the cookies really was the final nail, and Sugar was so furious with him that she set him up for a hilariously embarrassing downfall. Randy was voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’ in a 5-3 vote, but he will return as the third member of the jury.

Charlie Herschel (29)
Hometown: New York, New York
Occupation: Lawyer

10th Boot - 2nd Jury Member

Charlie was yet another shocking boot in a season of the strong players being picked off one after another. Charlie didn’t really make any gaming mistakes, but Ken is running the show right now, and Ken decided that the hidden Immunity Idol clue that Charlie took from him was enough of a reason to target him. Ken managed to convince Sugar, and that was all it took, as Charlie became another blindsided castaway, the tenth player to be booted from the game in a 5-4 vote. However, he will return as a member of the jury, who will decide which player will win the $1 million dollar prize and the title of Sole Survivor.

Marcus Lehman (28)
Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
Occupation: Doctor

9th Boot - 1st Jury Member

I am completely shocked that Marcus didn’t make it to the finals. He was arguably the strongest player in the game. This newest tribal switch was his downfall. If he had been on Fang, this wouldn’t have happened. Unfortunately, Susie was feeling on the outs, and she was presented with the chance to take out the strongest player in the game. Like any person who is even somewhat smart, she took the opportunity and jumped ship. Marcus became the ninth person to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’, but he will return as the first member of the jury.

Dan Kay (32)
Hometown: Boston, Massachusetts
Occupation: Lawyer

8th Boot

Dan ranks in last place for the Kota tribe this week. His extra consumption of food really seems to be a touchy issue with his tribe, and I think it has enlarged the target he already had on his back. He hasn’t really been able to make any solid allies in his new tribe, and I think he will most likely be the person Kota votes off next.

Ace Gordon (27)
Hometown: Naples, Florida
Occupation: Jewelry Sales

7th Boot

Ace moves up three positions this week. Although he isn’t exactly the most popular person in the game, he is a physical asset, and he seems to be able to make pacts when he needs to. If he holds tight to his alliance with Matty, he could have a good run in the game, since I think he will dominate in the individual Immunity Challenges if he makes it to the merge.

Kelly Czarnecki (22)
Hometown: Buffalo Grove, Illinois
Occupation: Retail Sales

6th Boot

I’m actually surprised that Kelly even made it this far. She didn’t play the social aspect of the game very well, and immediately isolated herself from Kota. Her only saving grace was the tribal switch, and if she had committed to that alliance, she could have taken that far into the game. However, I don’t think Kelly really knew how to play the game, and her outspoken nature finally cost her, as she became the sixth castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.

Danny "GC" Brown (26)
Hometown: Portland, Oregon
Occupation: Maintenance Man

5th Boot

I am so glad to see GC gone. His attitude of wanting to quit reminded me of Osten from ‘Survivor Pearl Islands’. I don’t understand why people sign up for the show, and then want to quit after they are out there competing. There has been sixteen seasons before this one, so you would think people would realize by now that they will be starving out in the elements, and it won’t be easy. Fang really tried to make GC successful, but he undermined all of their attempts. Maybe if he had stuck with being the leader, things would have worked out differently, but I doubt it, because he is just too weak and whiny. GC became the fifth castaway voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’ after a unanimous vote.

Jacque Berg (25)
Hometown: Santa Barbara, California

4th Boot

Jacquie was such a strong player, and I don’t think anyone could have seen this coming. I was really looking forward to seeing her strategic side come out later in the game, but the tribal switch completely screwed her over. The rest of her alliance stayed on Kota, and all of her allies were gone. The others had already managed to get Kelly on their side, and Ace was the strongest physical asset, leaving Jacquie as the only target. Jacquie became the fourth castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.

Paloma Soto-Castillo (24)
Hometown: Downey, California

3rd Boot

This is not a shock. I ranked Paloma bottom for the Kota tribe last week, and when they lost, she went home, exactly like I expected. While there are weaker women competing on this season, they were all on the other tribe. Paloma was the weakest on her tribe, and she didn’t really try to do a lot of scheming to change her fate. Paloma did show a lot of spunk at Tribal Council, and I think she would have been interesting to watch progress in the game. Nevertheless, Paloma became the third castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.

Gillian Larson (61)
Hometown: Temecula, California
Occupation: Retired Nurse

2nd Boot
I really was hoping that Gillian could pull out a decent run like Rudy and Scout did in the past, but with older contestants, they either go early or make it far. In Gillian’s case, it was the former. Also, although she was only trying to help, she spoke up way too often, putting a target on herself, which was already big enough due to her lack of physicality alone. In the end, even Gillian’s positive attitude couldn’t save her, as she became the second castaway voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.

Michelle Chase (24)
Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Occupation: Music Producer

1st Boot
I thought that Michelle had a chance to be a dark horse, but her attitude squashed that chance rather quickly. Michelle immediately isolated herself from all but one of her tribe mates, which is never a good strategy. Despite her performing better in the challenges, the tribe chose Gillian’s positive spirit over her constant negativity, as Michelle became the first player voted off of ‘Survivor Gabon’.
