Survivor Samoa: Erik Leads The Rankings Going Into The Merge
Rankings by RTVC Staff Writer Logan Huffman
October 30, 2009
This week on ‘Survivor Samoa’, Foa Foa kept their hopes up that they could turn the game around for them, and at Galu, the guys brought Shambo into their clique by nominating her as the new tribe leader.

At the Reward Challenge, Galu emerged victorious once again, winning a getaway on a sailboat with lunch included.

Shambo chose to send Laura over to the other tribe, where Russell formed a secret alliance with her to go to the final two.

Also during Laura’s visit, Liz became irritated that Natalie and Laura only chatted while she and Mick worked around the camp.

At the Immunity Challenge, Foa Foa got off to a big lead, but Galu caught up, and when Jaison gave up on assembling the puzzle, Galu overtook Foa Foa and won yet another Immunity Challenge.

Before Tribal Council, Russell weighed his desire to get rid of Liz against Jaison’s continued physical weakness.

However, in the end, the tribe decided to boot Liz from ‘Survivor Samoa’.

Here's this weeks rankings:
Erik
Current Ranking: 1         Previous Ranking: 1
Erik remains in first place heading into the merge. Sometimes stronger physical players are the first to go after the merge, but I don’t think Erik will suffer the same fate. He has built up a tight alliance, and I think they are the power alliance headed into the merge. And Erik seems to be leading that alliance.

Brett
Current Ranking: 2         Previous Ranking: 4
Brett moves up two spots this week. He helped lead his tribe to a victory in the Reward Challenge. He is still lying low, but moves up this week because I think he will be less of a target in his alliance than some of the other members.

John
Current Ranking: 3         Previous Ranking: 2
John drops one spot this week. John is also in the guys’ alliance, and should be safe as the numbers hold.

Dave
Current Ranking: 4         Previous Ranking: 3
Like the others higher than him on the scoreboard, Dave is in what looks to be the dominant alliance, and shouldn’t be in any danger.

Shambo
Current Ranking: 5         Previous Ranking: 13
Shambo retains her ranking this week. She is in a much better position now that she has made the merge. She is in with the guys now, which is great, but she could switch sides, and I honestly think she would be better off if she did. She will never be able to break up the guys, but she could worm her way into some tighter bonds with Foa Foa. Either way, Shambo seems to be in a great position for the time being.

Russell H.
Current Ranking: 6         Previous Ranking: 6
Russell remains in sixth place this week. Out of all of the Foa Foa members, Russell has the best chance of turning the game on its head. Russell obviously knows how to work people, and I think he should have no trouble worming his way into some alliance.

Laura
Current Ranking: 7         Previous Ranking: 7
Laura retains her ranking this week. Laura is in with Russell, and as long as he sticks to his word, Laura is in a great position.

Natalie
Current Ranking: 8         Previous Ranking: 11
Natalie moves up to eighth place this week. Natalie also seems to be in a decent position headed into the merge. She has her alliance with Russell, which should help her, and she won’t be viewed as a challenge threat, which is also a big plus for her. Natalie should be safe for a while.

Kelly
Current Ranking: 9         Previous Ranking: 10
Kelly ranks in ninth place this week. Kelly continues to lay low in the game, and she will need to step up with the merge coming in order to not be an easy vote off.

Monica
Current Ranking: 10         Previous Ranking: 12
Monica ranks in tenth place this week. Monica just hasn’t been doing particularly well in the game. She has managed to make the merge, mostly due to Galu’s winning streak, but if she doesn’t work quickly to make an alliance, she will be finished soon.

Mick
Current Ranking: 11         Previous Ranking: 8
Mick continues to descend the scoreboard, ranking in eleventh place this week. The merge is here, and Mick is outnumbered by Galu. Combine that with the fact that he is a physical strong competitor, and his time in the game may be over soon.

Jaison
Current Ranking: 12         Previous Ranking: 9
Jaison falls into last place this week. He has made the merge, and he isn’t the best in challenges, which could benefit him now. However, besides Mick, he has no allies, and he will still be perceived as strong. I think all of that combined will lead to him being the next to go.

Liz
6th Boot
Liz just had a very rough time in the game. I think Liz was actually a decent player that was in a very bad position. She got on the wrong tribe, and with Foa Foa’s constant losses, she just never had the chance to recover. If she had been on Galu, or even a different season of ‘Survivor’, I really think Liz could have been a great player, and could have gone very far in the game. Liz became the eighth castaway to exit ‘Survivor Samoa’ after a unanimous vote.

Russell S.
2nd Medical Evacuation
Although I thought Russell was kind of arrogant and cocky, I hate to see anyone go out of the game the way he did. I think his attitude was due to his competitive nature, probably the same way I would be if I were on the show. I’m very sorry to Russell that he had to go out the way he did. Russell became the seventh castaway to exit ‘Survivor Samoa’.

Ashley
5th Boot
This isn’t a shock. Ashley hasn’t been in a good position since day one, and her weak challenge performances only reset the spotlight on to her. Ashley was a weak player, and it finally caught up to her. Ashley became the fifth castaway to be voted off of ‘Survivor Samoa’ in a unanimous vote.

Yasmin
4th Boot
I don’t think Yasmin understands why she was booted out. She was definitely on the confrontational side, which didn’t help her, and I understand wanting to save energy for challenges, but doing nothing around camp isn’t looked favorably upon. Seeing her walk very slowly down the Tribal Council steps in her high heels after she was booted may be one of my favorite ‘Survivor’ scenes ever. Yasmin was booted in an 8-2 vote, becoming the fifth castaway to leave ‘Survivor Samoa’.

Ben
3rd Boot
Ben did not play the game well. He seemed to have the right skills for survival, but clearly the social skills were lacking. He incessantly picked fights with someone, never a good strategy on ‘Survivor’. And he even had a key player fighting for him, but in the end, Ben had already done too much irreparable damage, causing him to be the fourth castaway to exit ‘Survivor Samoa’.

Betsy
2nd Boot
Betsy had some rough luck. If Mike hadn’t been medically removed from the game, she would probably still be in the game, as Mike would have been the clear target. Unfortunately for Betsy, none of her efforts had any effect, as the tribe had already decided her fate. Betsy became the third castaway to exit ‘Survivor Samoa’.

Mike
1st Medical Evacuation
I feel bad for Mike. Going out in the challenge like that is a bad way to leave the game, but if he hadn’t been medically removed from the game after the challenge, I think he would have been voted off at Tribal Council anyway. Mike became the second castaway to exit ‘Survivor Samoa’ after being medically removed from the game due to low blood pressure and difficulty breathing.

Marisa
1st Boot
Marisa seemed to be a somewhat decent physical competitor, but it all came crashing down for her quickly. She was right to be wary of Russell H., but admitting it to his face was not a good strategy. Always lie and say you are with someone you just allied with! Turn the tables on them instead of letting them oust you. Marisa made a critical mistake, and while it may not have affected her on other seasons, she was dealing with the supposedly most evil player in ‘Survivor’ history. Marisa became the first castaway to exit ‘Survivor Samoa’ in a 7-3 vote.
