Survivor Vanuatu
Chad Blames Ami
Commentary by RTVC Editor Ron Lemon

Last Thursday night saw Chad get booted of Vanuatu. It was the highest rated episode of what is becoming a very boring season. 20.6 million tuned in to see the women totally disregard strategy, tactics, practicality, and even loyalty in favor of voting against anything with a penis. And Bootee Chad is talking about it. In an interview with TV Guide Chad points out that the all female alliance was formed by Ami and is shaped by her sexual orientation and views. Well, duh! Chad is quoted as saying "Ami had gotten the women against men because she's not a big fan of the man." He thought he would relate well with women on the Island saying that "I thought going in it was going to be one of my advantages. I grew up most of my life with just my mom and my sister, I work with women almost exclusively and I get along really well with women."
It is a shame that what is arguably one of the top three reality shows on the air has become just one more tool for people to divide, polarize and politicize society. Shame on Ami for her gender bias. Shame on the other women for going along with something because it was easier. I would have expected Scout and Twila to know better. What will they do when they are all that is left? I'm betting Burnett will never again set teams up based on gender alone.
It's been a disappointing season so far. Where are the characters. The villain you hate but secretly respect for their game play? Where is the sad but sympathetic player who you know has no chance but you root for them because of the strength of their character? Where is the hero? Oh well, the numbers are still there because the show's premise is so good. It will survive one lack-luster season. The crew is currently on Palau shooting Survivor 10. They need to come through this time.
