Survivor One World: Matt Quinlan - Stimpy's Take, Interview, Bio And More

Well, Probst thinks he’s another potential villain.
Translation: An ass we’re probably gonna hate something fierce.
Now, it should be noted: Matt is obviously physically fit. He knows the game (or appears to), and is driven.
Those are all pluses.
But, Matt also has ‘alpha male’ written all over him, and that folks is a potential red-flag.
Only because this season, on a tribe of nuthin’ but guys, ‘alpha male’ just may end up pissing enough people off to really fubar any shot he’s got.
That being said, while I am impressed with Matt’s accomplishments in life, he’s another that seems to be searching for the ‘original’ thing to say in how he responds to the questions, rather than, just being himself.
Which, ladies and gents, is probably one of the truly original things a person can do.
While his personal claim to fame about starting his own law firm is impressive enough, when asked about his inspiration he went off on a tangent about maximizing his potential.
A big red-flag is that he can’t come up with a previous Survivor he would liken himself to.
Why is that a red-flag Stimpy, you ask?
Well, there are those, who, when responding to the question give the stereotypical answers of ‘fan favorites’ that they probably cheered for whilst watching, and thus want to try and emulate their game.
Whereas others, will look back and say ‘maybe a bit like this person, and a skosh of that person’, just to give everyone an idea of what they may see.
With Matt, it seems like he can’t liken himself to anyone, because that would mean he would have to be like them.
And, actually, no it doesn’t.
Hell, he even says that if someone’s plan is to come in and play like a previous player then they’re in over their heads.
To which, I cannot disagree.
However, the question isn’t: Which previous Survivor’s game play are you going to follow?
It’s: Which previous Survivor are you most like?
Aye, this is where it all comes into focus lasses and laddies.
Matt = Ego.
He can’t say he’s like anyone else, because that will minimize the magnificence that is Matt.
That’s a lot of alliteration from suspicious Stimpy Snarking away.
Jeez, I did it again.
Anyhoo, point is: Matt’s pretty full of himself.
I know, shocker.
He’s also keenly aware that people are gonna be watching.
So, he may also be a narcissist.
I know, shocker.
One of the real red-flags I got from Matt’s bio was how he described himself as having all the attributes to succeed, and listed ‘charisma’ as one of said attributes.
Folks, I take it as a rule that anytime anyone says they have charisma, then they tend to believe their shit doesn’t stink.
And, people like that tend not to do very well in this kinda game.
Matt may think he’s charismatic, hell, he might very well be, but in a lawyer-like setting, in a suit and tie.
Out in the South Pacific with a bunch of other people living on a beach?
You wanna know what’s charismatic out there? Not being an ass.
Now, again, Matt’s probably got the physical chops down so he won’t be in too much danger, unless he really pisses people off - and, again, on a tribe full of guys, don’t discount that - so, he’ll probably be around for a bit.
And, he does profess to know the game, as he’s said he’s seen a lot of it.
He’s at least aware of the fact that all the things he thinks are attributes can make him a target later on in the game.
But there’s a touch of hubris when he adds that he needs to use his good traits in a non-intimidating way in order to succeed.
Don’t worry about not being intimidating dude, worry about not coming off as an asshole.
They never do well in this game.
Got thoughts? Post them at the end.
CBS Bio: Name (Age): Matt Quinlan (33) Tribe Designation: Manono Current Residence: San Francisco, Calif. Occupation: Attorney Personal Claim to Fame: Starting my own law firm; The Law Offices of Matthew J. Quinlan. I take my career and my commitment to my clients very seriously. Being able to set up MJQLAW so that I can make a difference in the lives of my clients is probably the thing I am most proud of in my life. Inspiration in Life: I aim to maximize my potential in everything I do. It is what keeps me pushing every day. Of course, “potential” is an elusive thing, but I look forward to chasing it for the rest of my life. Hobbies: Golf, fitness and all things sports. Pet Peeves: Complaining, pessimism and over-the-top subjectivity. 3 Words to Describe You: Ambitious, optimistic and dependable. SURVIVOR Contestant You Are Most Like: I have seen a lot of Survivor and can’t recall a past contestant that reminds me of myself, so I have to answer this question with “nobody.” I don’t plan on playing this game like any past Survivor. In fact, if someone’s plan is to play like a past contestant they are probably both in-over-their-heads and in-real-trouble. If I have it my way, I will be playing a bold, evolved and innovative game that I hope takes Survivor game play to its inevitable next level. Reason for Being on SURVIVOR: Who wouldn’t want to be on Survivor?!?! I feel extremely fortunate to be given an opportunity that millions of people would give anything for and won’t take it for granted for even a minute. America will see me give everything I have to the game! I owe that to myself and all the Survivor fans out there. Why You Think You’ll “Survive” SURVIVOR: I’ll die out there before I quit. The only way I am leaving that island is with a tag on my toe or with a snuffed torch. Why You Think You Will Be the Sole SURVIVOR: I think I have a lot of attributes that will help me succeed in the game: athleticism, charisma, smarts, etc. That said, these things are also going to make me a target in the game of Survivor, so figuring out how to use these traits in a non-intimidating way will be the key to my success.
Stimpy is a huge fan of Survivor and enjoys dissecting each episode. When not watching Survivor or sports on TV, he fills his time by skydiving, rockclimbing, golfing, and rollerblading, as well as sitting on the beach drinking beer in British Columbia, Canada.
