Survivor Millennials vs. Gen X: Meet Bret
Stimpy's Take
Septeber 6, 2016

Bret - GENERATION X
He’s a cop, but he doesn’t seem like he’s gonna be a hard-ass or anything so that’s a plus.

He’s also going to use his skills from police work to his advantage, which is also good. He says as a cop he knows when he’s being lied to and if you can figure that out in this game it’s a very good thing.

While he describes himself as funny there was a certain haughtiness to his description of what it meant to be a Gen Xer. While I certainly agreed with all his sentiments, he came across like he was trying to say Gen Xers are better than Millenials.

Again, I agreed with him on most of his comments - particularly the one about Saturday morning cartoons! - but I don’t begrudge millenials for the things they’ve gotten to do in their youth that us older folks didn’t have. After all I don’t want to be begrudged by those older than me because I’ve always had indoor plumbing or something.

That’s something he’ll have to keep in check when/if he’s interacting with the younglings.

I certainly didn’t like it when Bret said he was here for the adventure and that the money was his second motivation. Again go on adventure vacation and let people who want the freaking loot play.

Now I did like how Bret said he’s likeable (but I took it with a grain of salt - I’m always going to say I like a guy who’s armed with a gun and a taser) and how he could read people like a book. And I particularly liked it when he said he’d lead the others without them knowing he was leading them.

I tend to think a cop can have that skill set at his disposal, so it’ll be interesting to see if Bret can pull it off.

But there is an eight hundred pound gorilla in the room. I’m not gonna fault Bret for likening himself to Jonathan Penner. But I have to call him on saying Penner was easy-going. Yes Penner got that it was a game, but he was never the easiest going person in any of his seasons.

More importantly Bret said he was like Penner because they were both ‘under the radar’. I sez pardon?

Bret are you sure you know who Jonathan Penner is? That man was so far OVER the radar he was OFF the fucking radar! I mean when you get booted from your first kick at the can for being an obnoxious over-eater, and it’s your own alliance that boots you? That’s not under the radar.

When you’re the ONE Survivor in the history of the game to have used the word ‘bollocks’? That’s not under the radar.

Ultimately I think that Bret is going to be a likeable enough guy, and his skill set as a cop should be a great benefit to him, there’s just something lacking in his profile. Maybe he comes across as too nice or unawares or something. Honestly I ain’t sure.

What I am sure of, is that Bret isn’t going to win. Hell I don’t even know that he’ll get close.

We shall see.

Meet Chris
