Survivor Millennials vs. Gen X: Meet Will Stimpy's Take
Septeber 6, 2016
So apparently Survivor has a new fixation with ‘the youngest to ever compete’, because they keep one upping themselves each season.
I mean for crying out loud Will is still in High School for crying out loud!
Now I get it. They want the kids to be there so Survivor still seems cool and au current.
But let’s face it. Kids don’t do all that well because they lack the life-experience. It wasn’t that long ago that another kid named Spencer was cast and his lack of life-experience was a major factor in not winning. Twice.
Will seems more interested in proving that a kid can succeed at this game. Big whoop. Give me a kid who wants the win and KNOWS how to get it, then I’ll be impressed.
Hell he even says he’s looking forward to screwing with people’s heads and lying every chance he can because ‘it sounds like fun’. Y’know what ain’t fun Will? Having someone with more experience who knows you’re trying to screw with their head, and knows that you’re lying and then does it back to you in SPADES?
I will admit I was mildly impressed when Will says he doesn’t want to play like any other Survivor because each season should be unique. However despite each season having its own unique make up, all the winners generally had something in common. Namely an understanding that it isn’t just about coming in and planning to manipulate people.
It’s knowing HOW to do that. While Will says that he’s willing to adapt, I don’t get the vibe that he gets the, ultimately, simple task that lies before him: convincing people to do what you want because it’s in THEIR best interests.
Plus I don’t think it’s possible for an eighteen year old to manipulate people who are much older. Not without a great rack at least. And since Will doesn’t have one, I think he might find it a skosh harder to manipulate people than he thinks.
I was a bit surprised that Will says he respected Randy. Don’t me wrong, I loved Randy, but he was never going to win this game. Mainly because Randy was a curmudgeon who didn’t give a shit what people thought of him. And an attitude like that is probably not going to get you many jury votes if you do happen to get to the end.
I think Will is going to be in for a very rude awakening once he gets out there. You can think you’re all that and a bag of chips when you’re eighteen years old, but reality has a nasty way of smacking the arrogance out of obnoxious teenagers.
Life can be funny like that. But I don’t think Will is going to be laughing. Certainly not all the way to the bank with a check for a million dollars. I really do wish Will could have a notebook while he was out there. Because I get the feeling he’s going to get schooled, and it wouldn’t hurt him to take some notes.
Stimpy is a huge fan of Survivor and enjoys dissecting each episode. When not watching Survivor or sports on TV, he fills his time by skydiving, rockclimbing, golfing, and rollerblading, as well as sitting on the beach drinking beer in British Columbia, Canada.
