So You Think You Can Dance: Here's The Initial Rankings For Your Top 11

I cannot believe it’s once again time to cover another, hopefully amazing, season of So You Think You Can Dance. Let us pray that the terrible result of last season will not happen this season. There is no possible way that Russell should have ever won over the exemplary Jakob Karr. I still cannot fathom as to why that was the result that America came up with, but I guess I must respect it and move forward. Thankfully, this year’s top eleven…er…wait? Hold it! Did I just say top eleven? Yeah, I think I just did. Isn’t there supposed to be a top ten this year? Oh wait, now I know! The producers wanted their favorite let-down, oops, I mean star, Billy Bell, to be in the competition. Look, I am going to say it right here and right now. Last season I called it that Billy Bell was not all he was cracked up to be, and he proved it this week in Vegas. He seemed so casual in his performances, as if he knew he was going to be good. Look, I understand his respectable yet not mesmerizing contemporary solos could inspire a few tears…from Adam Shankman at least. But for the rest of us, I think we are going to be seeing another Danny Gokey on our hands, where the judges insist this individual is amazing only to be disappointed week after week. Billy’s arms are all wrong, his emotion is entirely one dimensional, and he does not have the diverse training in other fields to really sell different styles of dance. There, I said my piece! Then again, Rob was not overly impressive either. Is it just me or are the contemporary boys kind of dull this year? Wait did I just say dull? Did I completely forget about farmer Kent?! Oh em gee, I think I just did! Okay, Kent may very well be the most likeable contemporary dancer in the show’s history, but that may not be saying much. None of the contemporary dancers have the technical perfection that Jakob, Danny, or Brandon had in seasons past, but then again all three lost either to homophobia or a lack of star personality. Pick your choice, but I think it is a little bit of both. I think Kent is just a nice, down to earth kid who just needs a break, and he may be the one to beat this year. Of all the men, I am rooting for Kent the most. As the rest of the top ten, there are some solid choices, and the ones who were cut I actually was not sad to see go. I still miss Marge Simpson chick. I think we all do to some degree, even though we knew deep down the girl’s technique is probably three or four years in the making until it is appropriate for the show’s standard. I mentioned earlier Kent was my male favorite, but my female favorite has got to be Melinda. Finally, finally, we have a legitimate tapper threat. Last year, I thought going into the top twenty Phillip would do some damage but his boring personality and total lack of chemistry with his partner resulted in an early cut. Tony as well was cut relatively early due to lack of connectivity, and Bianca…well, let’s not discuss this technical trainwreck any longer. But Melinda, wow. Melinda is by far and wide the best tapper they have had on this show. Ever since her very first audition, which I completely disagree with Nigel about, she drew me in completely. Unlike Bianca – oops I mentioned her – I noticed that her back was not in poor posture and she had a grace moving across the dance floor that could easily translate into the diversity of the program’s routines. I am very happy she made it into the top eleven. As for the rest, I will cover them in my rankings section. What I thought I would do now is have a little fun surmising the first week all-star partners. What would be my dream team matchup? Well Kent has the Ivan-like personality, so I definitely have to partner him up with Ivan’s ex-partner, Allison Holker. No doubt about that. I think Billy needs someone with edge to make him even more edgier, so I’d actually partner him up with Anya. Adechike I would probably partner with Courtney. They are both young and seem relatively likeable enough to sell a routine with smiles beaming. For that girl Ashley, I think I will have to go with Neil on that one. She is relatively unknown and needs someone who will pull in the audience. I’m not really feeling that girl Alexie at the moment. She is a little too happy go lucky, doesn’t translate well into votes type of person at the moment. She needs to unleash her inner edgy Latina hottie, so I would pair her up with Pasha in this case. Lauren seems to be the next Kayla according to the judges, but let’s hope Lauren translates to the fans. Kayla practically had to crawl on hands and knees to get to that finale. I think Lauren would actually go well with Mark. As for Melinda, well I think she is a person who needs someone with just as much personality and chemistry formulating as possible, so I think Twitch would be a good partner for her. That leaves Christina with Dominic. It sucks having to choose Dominic at default. Why is he here over Legacy, why judges/producers?! As for the remainder of the boys, I think Alex should be partnered up with Kathryn. They would make a damn good looking contemporary piece while ever remaining utterly boring. Robert by default is going to have to partner up with Comfort because of the fact that Jose, a hip-hop breaker, cannot partner up with a hip-hop all-star. Finally, the last pairing is between Jose and Lauren, which I think will be good. Lauren is as diverse a dancer as they come, so she can challenge Jose in learning new styles of dance. So, to recap my first week ideal pairings would be: Billy and Anya Kent and Allison Courtney and Adechike Alexie and Pasha Christina and Dominic Alex and Kathryn Jose and Lauren Robert and Comfort Twitch and Melinda Lauren and Mark Ashley and Neil I wonder if any of my predicted couples will formulate next week. We shall see. Now, after all is said and done, here are my top eleven rankings:
