So You Think You Can Dance 6: The Race For The End Begins
Recap by Jenny Lane

This week on So You Think You Can Dance, the remaining twelve finalists will take the stage. After this round of eliminations, we will have our top ten. This will also be the last time that these couples dance together, and next week they’ll all get shuffled around.
Tonight, Cat is wearing a one shouldered short blue dress, with strappy chunky shoes. Mary looks alright tonight, in a conservative maroon dress. She sure does love putting something on one shoulder though, and this dress is no exception – it’s got a big, weird, floppy bow type thing on the left shoulder.
Our first couple of the night is Ellenore and Ryan. Ellenore says she’s going to miss Ryan’s perfectionism. Ryan says he’ll miss Elenore’s fun, quirky personality. This time, they’re dancing a Lindy Hop by a new choreographer named Carla.
Ryan is wearing a white shirt and tie with gray pants and vest. Ellenore is wearing a dress that is gold and full on the bottom, and white on top. It’s of course all very old fashioned looking, and fits the mood of the dance. They do a good job making what is sometimes a boring dance not too boring, so that in itself is a success. The lifts are interesting, and get cheers from the audience.
Adam says “what a fantastic start to the show, that was awesome.” Mary says “it was tremendous, you guys both captured the right feel.” Nigel says “I thought it was terrible…that we haven’t had the Lindy Hop on for three seasons, it was terrific to watch.”
Next up are Kathryn and Legacy. Legacy says he’ll miss Kathryn’s help with his body – meaning flexibility. Kathryn says she will miss that Legacy brings a presence to every situation and helps them get into character. Their first dance this week is a jazz routine from Sonya. The story is of a man who quivers every time he sees his woman.
Legacy is wearing jeans, and nothing else. Kathryn is wearing a super tight red leotard shaped outfit. The dance starts out with Legacy covering half of the stage, walking on his hands, with his body parallel and only inches above the stage itself. The music has a strong beat but isn’t melodic in any way, and I’m not sure if that helps or hurts the routine. As for the routine, it reminds me a little of the bird dance that Sonya did, a little of a slutty music video, and a little of a strip club. Don’t get me wrong, that’s not a bad thing.
Adam says “Sonya, what a great routine, that was awesome, if you keep dancing like this you’re going all the way!” Mary says it was outstanding, and talks about how Legacy keeps impressing them every week. Nigel says that it was one of his favorite routines of the season. I just love Legacy, his smile makes me smile every time.
Since Karen and Victor lost their partners last week, they are dancing together this week. They’re doing a Tango, so I expect it will be a good one. They’re portraying secret, silent lovers, and they’re dressed completely in black. It’s a little hard to see them since they’re in black and the set is black, but as I’m thinking that, the background lighting switches to blue and the lights come up a little, which helps.
Adam says “this partnership really ended up working out, congratulations!” He says Victor had great poise and stature, and they had hot chemistry. Mary tells Victor that she didn’t think he’d be able to pull this dance off, but he did, and the difficulty level of the dance was very high. She tells Karen that she looked great out there, and she (but not Victor) is still on the hot tamale train. Nigel says their chemistry was beautiful, and tells Karen that she has the same watchable quality that Shakira and Jennifer Lopez have. Seems like a bit of an exaggeration, but whatever.
Next we have.....
