So You Think You Can Dance 6: Standing O From Judges To Ellenore And Jakob
Recap by Jenny Lane

They get the Standing O.
Last week on So You Think You Can Dance, the remaining six couples each performed two dances. The judges loved Kathryn and Legacy’s Jazz dance and Viennese waltz. They liked Noelle and Russell’s contemporary dance involving paint, but weren’t sold on their Samba. The favorite performance of the night was a Lyrical Jazz routine from Ashleigh and Jakob.
I predicted that the bottom three couples would be Mollee and Nathan, Ellenore and Ryan, and Karen and Victor, and that Mollee and Victor would be the two to go home. I was right about all three couples in the bottom three, but not about who went home.
Nigel told Mollee that her solo was a true ‘dance for your life’ solo, and the judges let her stay in the competition. Instead, it was a surprise to me as Karen was the one sent home. Nigel told her that she didn’t put her heart and soul into her solo, which helped Mollee to be able to save herself.
The judges were not unanimous about which guy to send home. Nigel told Nathan that if he had his way, he would be the one who would be going home. Instead, it was Victor who left the competition.
This week, the remaining couples will all dance with new partners. The judges have lost their power, and the viewers will now decide who stays and who goes. I have to think that Mollee’s safety will be short lived now, especially since she is not paired with Nathan anymore.
Cat opens this week’s performance show wearing a very simple short black dress with a wide, round, ruffled collar. Her hair is pulled back, and she looks much less foxy than normal. Mary got the simple black dress memo, and she too is looking oddly conservative this evening.
Another change this week is that the viewers aren’t voting for couples anymore. Instead, they will be calling in and voting for individual dancers. Tonight, everyone will be performing solos in addition to dancing with their new partners.
First up with a Hip Hop routine from Tabitha and Napoleon are Noelle and Ryan. The dance gets started right away, without the usual silly clip of them talking about some random topic. “Give it to Me Right” by Melanie Fiona starts as Noelle walks onstage, wearing a white pantsuit and carrying a folder of papers. Ryan is onstage, wearing business clothes and sitting at a desk. Hmm, it seems to me that we’ve seen something like this before. Noelle dances around Ryan, rips open her jacket to reveal a black bustier, and then sits spread eagle on the desk. Ryan gets up, and the two dance around and on the desk.
I thought I’d like this pairing, but something about it doesn’t do it for me. I don’t think I believe that they’re as hot for each other as they’re pretending to be.
Nigel tells Noelle that she.....
