So You Think You Can Dance 6: It's All About Believing In Yourself
Recap by Jenny Lane
December 10, 2009

The fans said no.
Last week on So You Think You Can Dance, the remaining ten dancers performed two pieces with new partners, and everyone danced solos. For the first time, the viewers were given complete control to vote for their favorite individual dancers.

Ellenore and Jakob danced a Quickstep and a Contemporary piece that earned them safety. Mollee lucked out in her partner pick, and she and Russell performed a great Lyrical Jazz routine and an acceptable Jive. After weeks of being in the bottom, Mollee and Russell were both safe. Ashleigh and Legacy’s Contemporary and Hip Hop dances received mixed reviews, but were enough to keep them safe.

Noelle and Ryan’s Hip Hop and Smooth Waltz were not enough to keep them out of danger. Nathan did not find the same success as his former partner Mollee. After performing a Broadway routine and a Rumba, he and his new partner Kathryn were in the bottom.

In the end, it was Noelle and Nathan who were sent home. Nathan was a bit of a surprise to me, I really thought he had a stronger fan base than he apparently does. I had thought that Nathan’s fans were what was keeping Mollee safe this whole time, but maybe it was actually the opposite that was happening.

Tonight, we’re down to just eight dancers. We’ve got a two hour performance show ahead of us, so I’m preparing myself for a long road. Hmm, as the dancers come out, it seems as if we’re missing one of the girls. Did I forget and did Ashleigh get booted already?

Cat struts onstage and greets the dancers, saying “hello my babies” as she walks by. If I was five foot ten, thin, legs up to my armpits, with long blonde hair and a cool accent, I’d wear the outfit that Cat has on tonight. It’s a gold jumpsuit – the bottom is actually short shorts, and the top has elbow length puffed sleeves and is of course open quite a ways in front. She’s also wearing a wide black belt and ankle high strappy slutty black shoes. Her hair is down, straight, and just the tiniest bit messy. Yes, I admit it, I have a bit of a girl crush on Cat.

This week, the couples have all had one of their tracks remixed “specially for the performance.” Cat tells us that one of the dancers was missing from the introductions (aha, I wasn’t losing it), and Ashleigh walks onstage. She’s wearing black pants, a black tank top, and a sweatshirt over her shoulders because of the sling that her arm is in. Ashleigh says that today, her shoulder popped out during a lift. She says she popped it back in and she’s ready to dance, but ‘they’ won’t clear her to perform. They’re going to have an MRI, and then she’ll be back next week - maybe.

Cat tells us that even though Ashleigh isn’t dancing tonight, she still has a phone number and will still need votes to make it to the next show. Hmm, interesting. So will she get more votes than usual because people feel sorry for her, or less votes because people think it’s unfair that she doesn’t have to dance for her spot in the finals. And I suppose her partner will have to perform with someone that he hasn’t rehearsed with until today, so bad for him as well.

This week, Kathryn and Ryan.....
