So You Think You Can Dance 6: It Will Come Down To Jakob And Russell

stopped the show.
It’s finale night on So You Think You Can Dance and we’re down to just six dancers.
For the guys, we have the technically talented Jakob, the hunky hubby Ryan, and the charming (and my favorite) Russell.
For the girls, we have the quirky Ellenore, the sexy wife Ashleigh, and the obligatory contemporary dancer Kathryn.
Tonight, Cat is wearing a short, simple, one-shouldered red dress. She struts onstage, and reminds us that tonight is the last time we’ll see the finalists dance before crowning the winner tomorrow.
Kathryn and Ryan get things started right away with a Samba. No clip of the rehearsals, nothing…I guess this is going to be a jam packed hour! The Samba is set to the well known “Magalenha,” sung by Sergio Mendes. Ryan is wearing black leather pants, and nothing else. Kathryn is wearing a barely there black and brown fringed halter top and skirt.
I’m too distracted by the lack of clothing to really concentrate on the Samba. It’s a little odd to see Ryan dancing on his bare tiptoes, rather than in shoes. Then again, why am I looking at his feet. Before I know it, the dance is done and the audience is cheering.
Nigel says the Samba was a great start to the show, and tells Katherine that she was fantastic. Mary says Ryan was “at home in your style, and shakin it brother.” She tells Kathryn that she was “into it, eating it up, it was fantastic.” Adam says the show should now be called ‘the rise of Kathryn,’ and says he’s blown away by her week after week.
Next up are Ellenore and Jakob, with a Broadway routine set to “I Gotcha” from the musical ‘Fosse.’ Jakob is wearing black pants and a black shirt. Ellenore is wearing a little black sequined nightgown type thing, with garter belts and black thigh highs. I guess they’re really pulling out the sexy costumes for tonight.
Again, I’m awfully distracted by the lack of costumes, but this time not in such a good way. I don’t quite get the meaning behind Ellenore’s lack of clothing, except of course the obvious. As far as Broadway routines go, this one is more interesting than some are to watch. It’s energetic, and tries to be sexy – operative word being ‘tries.’
Nigel says Tyce worked with their own qualities to create this routine, and that showed them off to their best. Mary tells Ellenore that she was smoldering, and tells Jakob that he’s tremendous. Adam says the number made Broadway current and hip, and tells Ellenore that she looked beautiful.
The next performance is a Lyrical Jazz routine from Ashleigh and Russell, to “Angel Standing By” by Jewel. Continuing the theme, Russell is wearing black pants and nothing else. Ashleigh is wearing a soft, floaty, semi see through, short nightgown.
