The Amazing Race: What Goes Around Comes Around - Sometimes
Leg Seven Commentary by RTVC Staff Writer Kathleen

A restraining order
waiting to happen.
What a nice change of pace to not be blazing mad after an episode.

Actually, although I was annoyed with Canaan’s behavior on last week’s leg, it wasn’t until after I read the post-elimination media interview that I became deeply upset at the whole dysfunction that is Mika and Canaan.

The TAR editing turns out to have been kind. In his own words, Canaan felt justified in trying to manhandle Mika and is still angry with her. Mika on the other hand is sorry she upset Canaan and they are still together. Canaan is a fit strong man and yet he was physically unable to pry Mika’s wet fingers from the handgrip, in spite of trying as hard as he was able.

That’s called a death grip.

Mika was that afraid and Canaan was so absorbed in his personal quest for the million dollars that he didn’t care. But the real prize here is that they are still together. No, Mika, No. Step away. Run.

I greatly fear that there is more pain plus restraining orders in her future. And it wasn’t all an edit for “good TV”. Until and unless you read the interview in Canaan’s own words, you had no idea the extent to which he is a self-absorbed bully with a tendency to violence.

Rant over.

This week was a demonstration of support and respect between partners and that was refreshing. Granted Ericka snipes at Brian when her inner diva has to suffer, but she knows she does it and Brian seems to forgive. Meghan and Cheyne were awesome in their handling of the “golf” challenge. Think of how badly that would have gone had it been Mika and Canaan. Ooops. I wasn’t going to go there again.

So, all in all it was a restful and satisfying week. I’m so glad the poker girls are finally gone. They don’t play well with others except for using the brothers as their pawn. And their game-play skates so close to the line on cheating that the TAR producers and footage reviewers must have had a constant headache. I really expected to hear Phil say “… HOWEVER, you did not actually count any bells, so …” We never got to see that part. Too bad.

And the goes around/comes around feature that sometimes shows up in he Race was right on time. As they were clubbing balls all over that cow pasture and night was falling, I was remembering the hay bale challenge from seasons past where Phil had to show up and invoke the compassion rule. Now it seems they are going to rerun a version of that challenge next week. Can’t wait. I really hope the goes around - comes around feature clobbers the brothers next week. They have had too many legs where they just grabbed onto coat-tails, smiled winningly and drafted their way to the mat.

And one more thing … what was with Pinky and the fish? They had done the whole darned leg and he just drew the line at not eating one fish? Granted it was probably pickled and probably that was chopped garlic all over it, but … My satellite feed was uneven because of the weather. Maybe I missed a key point.

I still like the Globetrotters for nice and good attitude, ditto Dad and Pinky, but I’m picking Meghan and Cheyne for the win. As I said the brothers bother me for their ethical lapses and Brian and Ericka are just too challenged regarding clue reading and the diva thing.
